If interested, Vlad would fit in Minneapolis

08:11 AM ET 01.14 | Little surprise, considering he waited until Jan. 26 last year, that Jim Thome remains unsigned, especially if he's still looking at Lance Berkman's contrat. Teams aren't showing much interest in players with limited defensive skills, and Thome doesn't play defense at all. This limits a manager's lineup options. That's one reason why Ozzie Guillen thought the White Sox would be better off without Thome last winter. It's not just Thome. Vladimir Guerrero, Manny Ramirez, Johnny Damon, Jason Giambi, Russell Branyan and Marcus Thames are among the defensively challenged players still looking for jobs. Guerrero would be a terrific fit for the Twins.

I still remember his defensive performance in the outfield in the World Series...he made Manny Ramirez look like Willie Mays

Come play at Target Field Vlad

In one sentence he's defensively challenged, and then the next he's a perfect fit for the Twins. Some of these sportswriters need refresher courses in sports journalism 101.

first come first serve, these DH types better sign anywhere they can or they will not be playing, the DH is more and more becoming a position to use for resting position players

Bunch of boppers out there for the having, just a matter of money and their ability to fill a possible defensive role occasionally.
I think the pressure is downward on these guys money.

he can still hit

Thought the same thing. Either way, I think Vlad WOULD be a good fit in place of Thome, but to say he has the ability to defend is like saying Karen Carpenter has the ability to eat.

I think the biggest difference between the two is that Thome physically can't play the field anymore and Vlad shouldn't play anymore...

Doesn't matter any more.. Twins are bringing Thome back...

January 14, 2011  02:35 PM ET

That would be great if Thome does come back but I don't believe anything has been agreed upon yet.

Vlad would be a good fit for the Twins but if Thome doesn't sign, then maybe we don't sign anyone as we have Kubel we can put in that role.

Man, thome and vlad had good years last year..with the bat. The HD has given these guys so much more money over their earning years. Let's see I got to remember that in fantasy baseball.....American League: offense, National League: pitching...

I mean seriously I think they are just aking this stuff up now... not 5 hours after this is posted the Twins resign Thome.

Vlad will be back with the Angels by this time next week.
