08:18 AM ET 01.14 | David Shaw seems to be the antithesis of a job-climbing coach looking for the next big gig. Shaw wants to be a Stanford lifer. He said he wants to be one of the 25-(years) and-up club along with women's basketball coach Tara VanDerveer, baseball coach Mark Marquess and tennis coach Dick Gould. "I went into the interview with the mindset that I wanted this to be my last head coaching interview ever," Shaw said. Shaw said he wants to put the 2010 season -- one of the best in school history -- "on a shelf for everybody to admire." But it's time to get back to work on a football team that doesn't need to be rebuilt, but retooled. "Two years of good football is not enough," Shaw said.

More power to him if he really wants to stay there. It'll be interesting to see i he can last there that long.

I suspect now that Stanford has had a taste of success their expectations will be higher. Until they realize that it just is not going to happen year in year out for them.

Refreshing to say the least since most college football coaches are mercenaries.

The guy would have a job for life if he can pull it off. The occasional run at a BCS game, and he is all set. Not a bad gig.

Right now you would think that would be the case. But I know how this works. Once a fanbase has been spoiled for a number of years with BCS runs and ten/eleven wins per... they start to get a little cranky if it doesn't come with a National Championship eventually. And once you win that national title... if you go more than five years before winning the next one... they start not wanting you there anymore thinking somebody else can do the job better.

I agree. Standford is the type of place where a coach can last that long. I still think it will be difficult, but I would like to see more of that in all college sports.

You think that they understand that the only way they get to that number of wins is with a little Luck. (Did you see what I did there?)

Happens at every school.
Stephon Tuitt is 100% Notre Dame, but he's taking a visit to Georgia Tech "just because." Kids do it all the time but it's funny to see the knee-jerk, panic-attack fans go crazy over it.
