Browns still unsure of McCoy's future

08:47 AM ET 01.16 | New Browns coach Pat Shurmur is saying all the right things about Colt McCoy, but the truth is the team is in no man's land with the quarterback. They like what he did enough as a rookie to want to see if he can continue to develop, so that could dissuade them from investing a first round pick in another quarterback. But they haven't seen enough to be certain that McCoy can be the man. The likely scenario is the Browns will have a veteran to compete with McCoy, but if McCoy doesn't step up they will have wasted another year.

Oh give the kid a chance, sure he's on a crappy team, but he's better than what they had before.

They wasted two years on Mangini, they haven't wasted anything on this kid, considering that they gave Quinn what, three or four years to develop? Gotta give him at least another year.

McCoy looked like he had some promise...give him this next year as a starter to see what he can do over a whole season

So now it's obvious we know the problem here, that with this kind of thinking the Browns haven't had a good qb since Kosar.

Indeed. Get him a deep threat and he'll become even better. He beat the Saints and the Patriots for cryin' out loud.

Also, get him some folks to protect him. The beating he took against Pittsburgh was awful!

This is why the Browns lose so many games, if this statement is true. They are not consistent in their approach to winning. They are like a fish on the deck with all of their decisions.

Exactly, no one deserves to take the beating that he took against Pittsburgh.

A WR should be their first priority, then build the offensive line.

what about Haynesworth?

but if you're on your back for half the game it doesn't matter who is lining up as WR.

they should never have hired Man-dum dum

Wonder where Pompei got this from... Bet it wasn't Holmgren.

January 16, 2011  09:06 AM ET

plus, he has no established receivers to throw to...the best receivers last season were Hillis and Watson

At least they were quick to get rid of him. A few coaches kept their jobs for fear of a work-stoppage next season.

Who wrote this? THE TRUTH IS that Holmgren wanted him and went and got him. The left side of the line is solid through Center. This offense is missing a solid right tackel, a deep threat and a good offensive coordinator. Colt McCoy is not the question on this offense.

Agree... no point on using another pick on a first round QB... who really would be a even bigger question mark than McCoy, who has already proved he can play to some degree in th NFL. Get Green on Blackmon in the draft and then focus on O-Line.
