Nets coach laughs off Melo trade talk

Coach is being realistic with their chances of landing the Melo as he's realized players aren't that stupid. Looking at the proposed trade Melo will be playing with a buncha old guys not to mention Billups will be on his way out. NJ will be stuck with aging Rip Hamilton, no point guard and a bunch of useless young players. When will these kids grow and how long will it take Nets to get all the right pieces for a championship team? Realistically y're looking at a five year plan.

On the other hand he comes to Knicks and there's already a big man, point guard and some quality young productive pieces in place. It's no brainer he'll shun NJ if money is not an issue. Everybody can see what's in store for Nets down the line so I don't see how a meeting can change all that. I won't be surprised if Melo decides not to meet at all... Maybe Avery Johnson coming to terms with reality is realizing they're kidding themselves at landing Anthony so he's laughing it off like a joke. One can only hope Jay Z and Prokhov are also at peace with themselves.

I hope this MELO Trade crap is over soon! ...

I feel it's holding up other trades, cause a number of other Teams have been mention as the 3rd wheel in the MELO deal .... DET, CLEV, even MIL was talked about locally cause of Redd $18m exp. contact, got NO clue on how

Don't blame Melo on this. He's made it clear he wants to join Knicks... he's even gone as far as comparing Nets to the Clippers even if and when Nets move to Brooklyn... but then the greedy arogant Josh want to flex their muscles when we all know they don't have much leverage... so this is the kinda crap we gotta deal with.

Some part of me wish he left cold turkey like Bosh and Lebron did...

Yupp.. they're jus a bad luck team. Having the worst record last season, they struck out on Wall, then in free agency and they continue to suck. Why the hello will anybody that's serious about winning go there? Even Lopez has retrogressed which suggests he wasn't that good to begin with... Nets are a joke so Avery's laughing...

Lopez needs to go to pheonix him and his brother robin at PF and C would be nightmarish for a team that plays on the inside....

Still think it's going to come down to money. In short around 84mill over 4yrs. That's what Melo can get now with option yr and extension. In the offseason, signing as a FA under a new CBA, it won't be 21mill a yr. SI has reported that the difference between extension now and signing as FA in offseason could be between 10-20mill. I'll be amazed if he leaves that on the table

well I agree with 1 thing you said here. Melo needs to be sold on what the nets are going to do in the future. Billups is old, rip is old, the rest haev not shown anything besides a 15 win team. Sure, I think year 1 maybe year 2 they will be much better, but than rip and billups will be done leaving melo w/a worse team he just left.

Though it appears this trade is close, I still would be shocked in melo went there.

fully agree, the knicks want to get a backup PG and another center but they cannot do anythign until the melo thing is over.

well LBJ took that contract. so that was his choice. He could have made more w/the knicks and even more if he stayed w/cleveland.

I just read a report sometime this morning where changes are expected in the new CBA but the max salary change will not really change much at all. Melo is getting bad advice stating that if he doesnt do the extention than he will lose money.

If he wants to come to the knicks, than do not sign w/anyone and the knicks will sign you outright in the offseason right away.

The only leverage Denver had was the 65 mil extension. However Melo has made it clear he's not about the money so Denver's wishes doesn't count. Someone said they'd wait and loose him for nothing than trade with Knicks and I can totally see that happening...
