07:45 AM ET 11.03 | To get their desired face-to-face meeting with Alex Rodriguez and his agent, the Yankees would have had to start the negotiations on a contract extension for the star third baseman with a guarantee of at least $350 million, Yankee sources say A-Rod's agent told them. Scott Boras, Rodriguez's rep, told Yankees GM Brian Cashman of the requirement in a conversation Oct. 25, the sources said. Three days later, during Game 4 of the World Series between Boston and Colorado, Boras announced that Rodriguez had opted out of the final three years of his historic $252 million contract.

its a shame we cant just chain that man to a truck and drag him down the street until he yells i give. !#$#$!@##$# if this keeps up he will have to go to a head shrinker just to get into anyones office to sign a contract.

If he can get $350 mil good for him let him try. In the likely event that he wont, he'll take his best offer to the yankees, subract the $21.3 mil the yankees woulda got from Texas and call it a day.

That's way too much money dude.If you would've had a history of producing when it counts, then I'd say go for it.But,as it stands, you didn't put out when you had the chance.I'm sure some team will cave into your demands but I don't think anyone is worth that many pesos,Amigo.

When are these owners gonna wake the ****# up? Hold out on this PUNK. If the owners would get together and no one offer him a huge contract, he would have to give in to a much lesser deal. Nobody is worth that much money. He is making baseball become a disgrace. There is no way i will pay to watch a game knowing people are asking for this much money. On another note, the same goes for Kobe in basketball. They're a bunch of greedy punks. Let them come to our neighborhood's and actually work for a living. they would go home crying to their mommy.

Assuming he somehow doesn't sign with the Yanks...it should be fun to see his return to Yankee stadium next year. Still remember his return to Seattle with the Texas Rangers with all those fake dollar bills flying around and the incessant booing......and the people in Seattle are supposed to be mild mannered !!!

November 3, 2007  09:34 AM ET

Again, the fool and the jester never had any intention of conducting honorable talks with the Yankees during the grace period. This whole affair was orchestrated by Boras from the very beginning. There is hard arse negotiating and then there is out and out blind greed and stupidity. Pick your poison.

November 3, 2007  09:42 AM ET

Wow, Boras has got one HUGE set of stones asking for that much. A-Rod is talented, but NOBODY is that talented.

November 3, 2007  09:54 AM ET

may the yankees reduce the contract value he opted out to something the rest of the market will pay when pay-rod discovers nobody in MLB has the money to pay him 350 million.

would be funny to see pay-rod get mad and go play in japan because mlb would only offer him 175 million.

November 3, 2007  10:01 AM ET

SCREWWW this piece of crappp....He makes more at one "at bat" than I will over my 20 year military career. Who do these athletes think they are????????He playing a game........lol...........350 Million will put every poor New York Child threw a state university. What a waste of money......for a freakin ball player

November 3, 2007  10:03 AM ET

He is setting himself up for some serious boos next year. A lot of people want him to break Bonds' "record" because of how much an **** Bonds is. Now it's starting to look like a tie between A-Rod and Bonds for biggest **** in baseball.

November 3, 2007  10:21 AM ET

Fact is, he sucks when it counts (postseason).
The mark of a geat player is the ability to make those around him better, and to win in the postseason. This is true regardless of the sport.
****-rod is the polar opposite in both of those barometers. Best thing for ****-rod would be to play for the Royals. That way he would never have to answer to why he folds in the postseason.
He is going to end up just like Bonds. Great individual stats in the regular season, and no championship rings. There is a great deal of satisfaction to be had in that fact.

Who in the heck can afford this guy?

Are there any new Hicks type owners out there anymore?

November 3, 2007  10:31 AM ET

<<< If the owners would get together and no one offer him a huge contract, he would have to give in to a much lesser deal. >>>

By the way, that's called collusion. And we all remember how well that went for the owners the last time.

November 3, 2007  10:34 AM ET

I heard the Mud Hens are the front-runners.

November 3, 2007  10:56 AM ET

I agree with JFK. If the owners "Man Up," and everyone refuses to pay this ridiculous sum, he and Boras could become the biggest losers in the history of sports. And they will deserve every penny. What a moron.
I think maybe he just wanted out of New York, but decided he would stay if the Yankees met his insane demands. That's the only thing I can think of that makes any sense.

November 3, 2007  11:30 AM ET

And who said talk is cheap? OUCH! I don't except anyone to approach that number and if they do they are morons.

November 3, 2007  11:31 AM ET

350 MILLION!?!?!?!

November 3, 2007  11:33 AM ET

The ballad of A-Rod gets more outrageous every day. I just can't believe there is an owner out there willing to give this guy that much money.
