Nothing mild about Crosby's concussion

08:40 AM ET 01.18 | Though he won't skip the All-Star Game, there is valid concern in Pittsburgh about Sidney Crosby. It appears there isn't anything mild about Crosby's concussion. The Penguins' captain has been out 13 days with what the Penguins initially described as a "mild concussion," and his return timetable remains unclear. Even some of his teammates are acknowledging that the injury isn't minor. "I don't know who ever termed it mild," defenseman Brooks Orpik said. ... Crosby hasn't played since Jan. 5, when Tampa Bay defenseman Victor Hedman rammed his head into the glass at Consol Energy Center. Four days earlier, Crosby absorbed a nasty, controversial hit from Washington's David Steckel.

The only thing controversial about the Steckel COLLISION is that pens homers keep calling it a HIT. If Steckel had wanted to actually hit Crosby, he would have Lindros'd him cuz he had him dead to rights. It sucks that Crosby's hurt. He's a great talent and he sells a lot of tickets. But if that had been anyone else in the league, this wouldn't even be a story right now. Get over it.
If he was having post concussion syndrome symptoms and the team docs let him play, then that's really unfortunate. You don't mess with concussions. Give your brain time to heal. It's only January, plenty of season left.

hmmm.....Kasparaitis.
They wouldn't have been careless with him, he played because he wasn't showing symptoms.
The Pens just won on the road in Montreal and Boston, so they are adjusting. The only big deal is the NHL loses him to injury for the ASG again which means they can't prostitute him for a meaningless game.

The Pens seem to be adjusting just fine without Crosby. No need to rush him back.
I,ve noticed in their last few games how they are starting to shoot the puck from everywhere and not try to set up 1 certain guy(Crosby) all the time.
As a Flyers fan,I say keep him out till Philly clinches home ice for the playoffs.:)

"I don't know who ever termed it mild" Brooks Orpik said. Well, your organization, his employer, said it was "mild". So did Bylsma. Nobody in their right mind wants to see any player, whether it's Crosby or Boogard, get hurt.
The constant bleating about the Steckel "hit" is ludicrous. I saw it. It appeared to be just how it was described "an inadvertent collision". I didn't see the hit by Hedman so I can't comment. By the time this over, 10 or 12 years from now, hitting (or checking, or criticizing, or failing to fall on your knees and cry 'Hosanna' when the Holy Crosby enters the rink, will be a felony.
Bottom line..............I hope he's back on the ice and playing well very soon.

Correctomundo! Steckel could have killed him.
Now if you would kindly stop posting comments that I agree with, I'd appreciate it. Having to concur with the opinions of a Flyers fan is going to leave me searching for a good shrink ;)

I too am adjusting quite well to life with out Crosby. It's almost like he was never here in the first place.

Dude, you seriously need to get over this Crosby envy and bitterness. Of course he's going to make news, he's the best player in the game. And other elite players have seen plenty of ink on these pages including Ovie and Kovalchuk and Savard when they have been injured.
In the NFL, they talk about Brady and Manning more than any other QB. In basketball it's Kobe and LeBron, etc. Why do you think that is?

Agree with you on the Steckel collision...With regards to the second incident, Hedman did drive his coconut into the turnbuckle.

If anything, this will make Pittsburgh a better team. Now they have to play without Crosby for a bit so they can't rely on him to win every game. They could turn out to be a much more difficult team to face in the playoffs thanks to this. So, rest him until he is 100+ percent. No need for the Pens to take chances.

Looked like a body check for the most part. If this hit had anything to do with his concussion, I have to think he was already compromised.

Because it sells papers. That's pretty much the only reason. And you need to get over this thing where you think everyone who criticizes Crosby, does so out of "envy". Whatever that means. I don't make these posts to piss you off, so if you take it personally that's on you. No matter what Bettman has told you, trust me, the world doesn't revolve around Pittsburgh.

I hate Sid Crosby. But I do hope he is able to come back from this and doesn't go the way of Eric Lindros. The guy is a great ambassador for hockey.
Now if Sean Avery never plays a game again.... I'd have no problem with that.
