08:15 AM ET 01.18 | While to some the signing of Rafael Soriano represented a clash at the top of the Yankees, the team, according to a source, has "full confidence" in Brian Cashman. "Cash did not want to give up the [No. 1] draft pick," said the executive, who refused to speak on the record until the Soriano deal is finalized pending a physical this week. "But at the end of the day, he didn't throw his body across the tracks over it, he just disagreed with it. It was a good faith dispute. Reasonable people can disagree." The executive went on to say: "Cash has not lost one iota of credibility or autonomy over this. There has been no loss of faith in him at all. Cash is in charge of all baseball operations, but he would never in a million years tell you ownership doesn't make the final decisions. It's their money, not his."

Really, what does a 20 something pick compare to signing the #1 reliever on the market? They yankees NEEDED an 8th inning guy

I agree. It is not like football when you draft. Cano was signed as an amateur free agent. Worked out pretty well.

I agree. I don't understand, at all, why Cashman was against this deal. A late 1st round draft pick? It's not worth zero, but it's not worth a bonafide major leaguer either. Now if he didn't like the deal because he was concerned about Soriano's injury history, that's an entirely different thing.

Texeira. Not the Yankees first rounder, but a first rounder nonetheless. I looked at the Braves starting lineup last year, and a majority of their starters, including pitchers were first rounders.

CC and Arod, also 1st round picks, although not by the Yanks.

In North Korea, they don't disagree with the decision maker more than once.

Next, they'll probably find Cashman hanging from a light fixture in his office.

Real men prefer guns to the head.

Cashman probably feels like he's been put in a no win situation. Told by the Steinbrener boys to keep that payroll under control, and develop some home grown talent to help accomplish just that. Then they turn around and give up their 1st round picks???
