08:13 AM ET 01.19 | Brian Cashman took the occasion of a Middlesex (Conn.) County Chamber of Commerce breakfast on Tuesday to recount a revealing conversation with Andy Pettitte. "Being from Texas and having to be in New York for six months out of the year can be hard because he has kids and he's missing important time with them. He's opting not to play right now but that might change [and] it might not. I told him don't 'Brett Favre' us. You got to be all in and fully dedicated to play. Do I need him? I need him, but I don't want him to play if his heart's not in it."

Nice! Cashman should get a nightclub act.

Don't Brett Favre me Bro!!!!

I like it. It's on point. So if someone just can't make up their mind you could saying they are "Favreing" someone. I see multiple meanings. To Favre...(i) string someone along, (ii) can't make up one's mind, (iii) sending lewd text messages.

It seems like Pettitte already has.

Shouldn't there be a fourth one exclusively for use in football: "giving the opposing team the opportunity to score by interception"?

Maybe he wants to "Clemens" them...... to hang out until June, then starting working out and join the team after the All Star Break. For $10M. The precedent has already been set.

I have a theory on the lack of spam. I really think SI cut a deal with Kim Jong Il and had all the spammers executed by firing squad.

Yankees should have hired Mike Melega years ago, instead of Cashman.

Oh doom doom doom...

January 19, 2011  09:24 AM ET

So, is Cashman saying don't say you're coming back, and then not coming back. Or his he requesting that Pettite not send any text messages?

If memory serves, Clemens deal was for $27 mio pro-rated, so a net $17 or so. Anyone care enough to look it up?
