08:25 AM ET 01.19 | Mikhail Prokhorov has entered the fray in earnest, and now it may be a matter of his pitch to Carmelo Anthony. If the Nets fail in their bid to get Anthony, the kind of superstar Prokhorov wants playing in Brooklyn, Net fans might get to see their future small forward, anyway. The Jazz's Andrei Kirilenko is a free agent this summer and knows Prokhorov well enough that the two have dinner in Russia when Kirilenko goes home every summer. According to Nets sources, Kirilenko is on the team's radar as a potential player and front-office official. But with the Knicks turning things around behind Amar'e Stoudemire, Prokhorov wants Anthony, first and foremost, to help revive the Nets' fortunes. There is growing speculation that even if the Nets can't get Anthony to agree to a long-term commitment, Prokhorov will still agree to a trade, on a reduced scale, to at least get Anthony for part of the season in hopes that they can convince him to stay.

Money is no concern to this cat. Especially when you are dealing with this toliet paper we call the US dollar.

This is why Nets will always be Nets... this owner is already showing signs of Sterlin. He's building from scratch yet he wants to small forwards and gamble with assets to land Melo... what kinda backward thinking is that? Of course no star will go to an organization with such a head... Melo's been in the league for a long time. This is not the time to play games and gamble with his future...

This dude better learn quickly that in the NBA you have to plan long-term. You can't give up a bunch of good pieces for a partial rental. I hope he isn't really that dumb.

Yeah......I called that last week.

I'm pretty certain that the Nets will make the trade even if 'Melo doesn't sign an extention first! It would be his choice.....sign with the Knicks/play in Manhatten/get tens of millions of dollars over 5 years;

or

Sign with the Nets/play in Brooklyn WHERE HE'S FROM/get well over a hundred million dollars over 5 years.

Bottom line.....he'll play somewhere in New York where he won't be a winner but he will get paid; the question is.......how much?
