Broncos, Eagles taken for ride by Mora

08:06 AM ET 01.20 | Presented with the options, hot assistant coach prospect and former head coach Jim Mora may have decided he was better off not working at all. The Broncos and the Philadelphia Eagles, meanwhile, may feel like they were taken for a ride. Mora, a former Atlanta Falcons and Seattle Seahawks head coach, declined defensive coordinator offers Wednesday from the Broncos and the Eagles. One factor in Mora's change of heart, according to an NFL source, is that the Seahawks are still paying him a head coaching salary for one more season. He wouldn't get that full payout from Seattle if he accepted another job. ... With Mora out, the Broncos' new list of defensive coordinator candidates could include Mike Trgovac, who is the Green Bay Packers' defensive line coach. Trgovac was Fox's defensive coordinator with the Carolina Panthers from 2003-08.

He should stick with beer commercials anyway.

I wouldn't say he took them for a ride. I suspect he was seeing how much they were willing to pay, and if the tradeoff was good, he would have accepted.

Taken for a ride? More like a blessing in deguise, for the Eagles and Broncos.

Playoffs?!

No Mangina being considered? I guess one apple off the Belichick tree was enough for Denver.

January 20, 2011  08:18 AM ET

Mora is the worst, be thankful.

I always think I'm on a golf thread when I see that picture.... Oh and Good for Nora, take the money and sit back and enjoy!

Larry Coyer is available (or at least I WISH he was)

Well, the spam blocking didn't last long, did it?

January 20, 2011  08:37 AM ET

Were they going to pay him even if there's a lockout? That could be a real problem hiring coaches this season, just like it's been harder for teams and players to settle on contracts. The owners seem like they're happy with a lockout, and who wouldn't be, with all the guaranteed money coming in and no salaries going out.

I'm not hopeful.

January 20, 2011  08:41 AM ET

Mora fails after a year on the job, guaranteed... I don't get why he's always mentioned for new jobs.

You're a Pat fan.... With a cowboy avatar.... but now Green Bay... You're killing me here, man.

GB is only for the duration. Gotta root for someone to beat those effin Jets.

CowGIRL avatar recognizes the superiority of the cheerleading squad. For football, I like outdoor stadiums in the north. For cheerleaders, though, southern climates and domes are needed to keep them from covering up too much flesh. Even with high-def, the stiff nips don't show up enough.

Got it...

I tried a Saints avatar last post-season, but it just felt weird... This year my playoff team is Chicago.

And who would have thought that Jay Cutler would be anywhere close enough to sniff a super bowl?

Man... Believe it or not, I didn't write him off... I wanted us to land him somehow... Cutler just struggled with a new system for a while... He still may throw a pick every now and then, but he can get it done... I like his attitude... He doesn't give a damn.

That's not totally fair. The Bears did make it to the Super Bowl with (or rather, in spite of) Rex Grossman at QB. And with that said, I'll never understand why people were calling for Lovie's head this pass offseason.
