Reeves rips Dolphins owner

09:22 AM ET 01.23 | Former NFL coaching great Dan Reeves took a shot at Miami Dolphins owner Steve Ross for pursuing former Stanford coach Jim Harbaugh while he already had a coach in place. "I think it's a bad situation," Reeves told Orlando Alzugaray of WFTL-640 (AM) on Thursday. "In the past, you never talked to anyone unless there was a vacancy. If they haven't fired somebody you just didn't say, 'Yeah, I'll interview with you and I'll talk with you.' That person had to be fired." Reeves, who is coaching the East squad for Saturday's East-West Shrine Game in Orlando, also empathized with Tony Sparano for being left in very public limbo.

One of the classiest guys knows low-class when he sees it.

A little late Dan. This was commented on two weeks ago. Did you just wake up from your nap? Eh...go back to sleep now.

Yes sir though he is a little tardy in his comments. Wonder what Reeves is doing these days? We sorely need a talent evaluator in Nashville.

I like Reeves, but I remember after the 86 season, Culverhouse hired Perkins while Bennett was still coaching. To make the situation vastly more uncomfortable, Culverhouse had a news conference with Bennett there to tell him and the media that Bennett will not be the coach in 87. I am no fan of Bennett, but that was real low. I dont think Mr Burns would do that. Then Jones brought Johnson with him in 89, and canned Landry. This has happened.

Ross is a moron end of story

January 23, 2011  10:35 AM ET

Dan's just bent out of shape that Ross called Harbaugh before he called him.

January 23, 2011  10:39 AM ET

Reeves is 100% correct. Ross shouldn't have had an interview and Harbaugh should have refused to be interviewed.

I agree with Reeve's sentiment. The Dolphins' owner has a lot of egg on his face. Might be kind of challenging for Sporano to maintain respect in the locker room.

Exactly. But it does show why the Dolphins have been going nowhere for a long time now. Ownership !

Didn't Harbaugh cancel the meeting?

No, he interviewed, but decided to leave $2M on the table to take the job in SF.

Ross is a putz.

I heard he made up with Sparano so that may not be "egg" on his face.

It appears that you guys have a real piece of work as an owner.

Agreed. I was disappointed to hear Harbaugh even took the interview.

A coach should know better.

Appears as though he expressed his professional opinion in a calm controlled manner. How come the headline says "Reeves rips Dolphins owner"? Did they just not print the "ripping" part?

I always liked Reeves but he should seriously upgrade the quality of the media he talks to.
