Ducks still waiting on Niedermayer

Ducks General Manager Brian Burke said Scott Niedermayer hasn't given him a deadline on whether he'll indeed retire or return to the team in light of a report out of Canada that said the former team captain will decide on his playing future well before Christmas. Burke said he spoke with Niedermayer before Saturday's game at Phoenix and said the defenseman remains indecisive. Niedermayer continues to be suspended by the team so that his $6.75-million annual salary won't count against the cap.

am I the only one who thinks this is a totally classless move by Niedermayer? what does this say to the guys who have been playing hard since training camp to help this team get to the playoffs in the spring? " thanks for doing all the hard work for me, now I'll ride in on my white horse and try for a cup ring."?The Ducks should move on, waiting until Christmas will be too late.

I agree with Stevelee.

I agree too. Niedermayer is making a fool out of himself and costs his team...
Go, stay, I don't care. Make a decision!
It more and more seems like a Burke scam to squeeze the salary cap issue and have an expensive good player at hand whenever needed.... And then he yells at Lowe for dirty tricks!

stevelee . . . .I think it says " yeah thanks for getting me here in the standings and . . . . . . . . . . . yeah ! sooooo . . . . who's ready to go to the minors and while your at it . . pick up the poop that my white horse left in your stall . . . . ta dah!!!!

I'm bored with this story. The Times' staff gets too enamored with locker room dramatics thinking it sells papers, just look at their Lakers beat! Burke doesn't call press conferences to say "Scottie still doesn't know." He is merely answering the questions presented to him. To think that the Ducks are in a holding pattern waiting for the two doddlers is to think Carlyle and Burke are as clueless as Joe Nobody in section 308 or the guy who never laced skates who wrote that piece. Just because the Writer's Guild is on strike doesn't mean the Times has to start writing drama!

What??! I thought the guy had retired!!! He is a great player and a real classy guy but he really needs to make his retirement official so that Fanation can stop posting this story!!!

its a garbage move by a guy I had respected unconditionally up to this stunt. You either love the game or you don't. Pulling this kind of move is lowly, and, well, I would expect it more out of a European player than out of a Canadian, especially a Canadian that would wear a letter on any team's roster in the world. I remember back a few years ago when Forsberg did this, and everyone got on him about it, then he came back and tore up the playoffs, leading the Avs to a Cup. That was a bulls**t move then, and it is even more of one now. If this works out nicely for the Ducks, its going to turn into a regular practice throughout the league, and that would be a disgrace. This already basically tells the fans how unimportant the regualr season is to the players, letting him comeback mid-season like this would be a travesty. I hope they do something this next off-season to stop **** like this from happening anymore

Gotta agree goC....would suck to in that dressing room not knowing whats going to happen. My money says Scott comes back and Selanne is done. But for both of them to be undecided at this point.....shame. Gives Burkes reputation a licking too as he sits and ponders...

November 5, 2007  12:04 PM ET

agree with you go. as long as little hit-ler bettman allows this crap to take place, more and more teams are going to do the same thing.for burke to sit and**** about kevin lowe,s move,s and then pull this, is complete garbage.

you guys are ridiculus... he's not out there stirring up the story... if he was a classless individual he'd be doing color commentary on tsn, or he'd find other ways to stay in the spotlight... it says alot about his character to take himself away from the team if he knows his commitment isn't 100%... it has nothing to do with whether he loves the game or not, clearly he does... he is showing the ultimate respect for the game and his teammates right now...

November 5, 2007  06:38 PM ET

and wasn't forsberg injured all year?

November 6, 2007  06:20 PM ET

I can't wait for his decision. At least then we won't have to see this as a headline anymore!!
