Teammate calls Stafford a china doll

08:03 AM ET 01.26 | Though he has since admitted it was a mistake to do so, Lions linebacker Zack Follett, while praising Matthew Stafford's talent, also criticized him during a radio appearance. "Stafford, good guy," Follett said. "He's a china doll right now. Anytime he gets hit, he goes down. But the kid is -- hopefully, it's just patiently waiting for him, because the kid is an awesome talent. He has a tremendous arm. The throws that he makes during practice when no one can touch him, he looks like an [All-America] quarterback. But put him in a game, and you hit his shoulder. So hopefully, say a couple prayers, keep him healthy next year, and the Lions can do some damage in the NFC."

He is fragile, but he's only going to get better with time.

Must be QB day on FN. He seems to have a lot of upside. Maybe if he was protected better this sheet wouldn't be an issue.

Exactly. Build up that line a little and good things will follow.

Maybe Follett should point his disdain at the Lions offensive line. Stafford wasn't the only Detroit QB getting killed last season.

Fix the O-Line and he will be fine.

For a top talent, you could at least call him a "porcelain doll."

QVC style. 6 easy payments of $10 million.

We are already outsourcing too much to China.

As far as I'm concerned, you've got to be pretty tough to be willing to line up behind center for that team. With more protection and some scar tissue, he'll be okay.

Still, Swarofski Crystal doll seems appropriate.

January 26, 2011  08:28 AM ET

Maybe he is getting all his injuries out of the way early.

January 26, 2011  08:32 AM ET

To Follet's credit, he did refer to Stafford as an "an awesome talent". But why let a positive comment stand toe to toe with a critical one, huh FN?

Hopefully, he's not getting all of his hot blondes out of the way early. I'd hate to replace all those eye-candy photos with some bald redhead.

O line would help for sure, and don't forget they play on turf in Detroit (and Minny) - so half the season he is getting slammed onto lightly covered cement, basically.

Royal Stafford china doll.

He's the best Detroit has, and he gets hurt a lot. do you blame the line for this, or go shopping for another Q.B.?

There's one in Mississippi, what likes touring the teams in the NFC north.

Yeah, something more dark and Darthy. You need to put fear in the hearts of Pittsburgh players and fans. And that's not an easy thing to do.
