08:19 AM ET 01.27 | Arte Moreno's relationship with the agent for Jered Weaver won't keep him from discussing a long-term deal with the Angels pitcher. Moreno declined to say anything about the status of the discussions, including whether they were still ongoing. ... Moreno, whose relationship with Boras cooled after the Mark Teixeira negotiations in 2008, said he has "no interest" in meeting directly with baseball's most powerful agent. Moreno said general manager Tony Reagins and other club executives could handle the Angels' business with Boras. Moreno declined even to use Boras' name in his comments. "My mother always told me, 'If you can't say anything nice, don't say anything at all," Moreno said.

LOL I like Arte Moreno

Arte is just pissed off at all the missed opportunities his team had to sign players like Carl Crawford and Adrian Beltre. Now he's stuck with the underachieving Vernon Wells and his $80 million plus contract.

Moreno is a good owner though, lowered the prices at the stadium and has fielded a competitive team most years. Plus I gotta respect a guy that has principles and if those include not dealing with Boras so be it.

All owners and GMs should take this approach with Bor-ass...

Morning barkeep.

BOOBS!!!

Good for him. Boras is a jag off.

Ha! Buck Foras!

I agree SGB. After the way Boras screwed over Jeff Weaver after the 2006 season, I can't believe Jered is still with him.

January 27, 2011  09:48 AM ET

Thank God someone from the baseball ranks said the obvious... if more people would side with Moreno, Boras would lose his leverage and go away....

January 27, 2011  09:49 AM ET

I don't blame him. Meeting with Boras is like having your last meal with your executioner.

Moreno should be pi##ed at the other owners. Not players or their agents. Excuse me, but it is not agents who offer up all that money, it is the other owners. NO agent ever gave any player a contract. The owners are their own worst enemy.

True. and who is to blame for that? The owners.

No owner ever gave more money than they thought they had to.

How smart is Moreno?
Toronto waived Vernon Wells in August. All the Angels had to do was place a claim and he would have been theirs. Instead, they trade for him in the offseason and give up Napoli and Rivera for that right. Then they give big dollars to a player on the decline.
Hnnnn?

I agree, the owners have made Boras what he is. I think the hatred of Boras comes from him being much more ridiculous and vocal about his clients.

Saying that Adrian Beltre compares favorably to George Brett and Mike Schmidt, for example.

As in they had to because one of their fellow owners was doing the same. Owners are the problem and only they can fix it. But they will not. Guys like Boras just pits them against each other and sits back and laughs.

January 27, 2011  10:20 AM ET

Boras never gave Moreno a chance to match Teixera and i would guess at Crawford either. Arte has taken undue heat.

Funny how people slam him for paying Wells but had no problem if he spent more for a longer contract on Beltre (Boras client)

As an Angel season ticket owner...Arte rocks..so glad he owns them. Dodger fans could be so lucky.

Boras is Barnum & Bailey rolled in to one. No one believes him, but they just cannot help themselves. They buy the ticket anyways.

Boras got that one dumb owner (Hicks) to bid against himself for Arod.
