Medically cleared, Santana not yet throwing

08:55 AM ET 01.27 | Cleared two weeks ago to begin throwing, Johan Santana reportedly has not done so. Sandy Alderson said Wednesday that, to his knowledge, his ace hadn't actually begun tossing a baseball yet. On Jan. 14, the Mets announced that Santana had been cleared by doctors to resume throwing as part of his rehabilitation from left shoulder surgery last September. That step hasn't been taken yet, Alderson said following a news conference to introduce utility infielder Chin-lung Hu. "To my knowledge, he's not throwing at this point," Alderson said. "But again, that's his own decision and based on how he feels. I think the [physical therapists] recommended that he continue to do certain exercises, and when he feels like he's ready to toss, he will. He's medically cleared, but to my knowledge, he hasn't actually started throwing yet."

I see Santana's value slipping year by year, and his apparent unwillingness to get on his horse and be ready for Spring Training doesn't help.

Man this is not the Santana I remember with the Twins... But before he left the Tigers had finally figured him out to a degree- and the rest of the central at the time for that matter...

I have no understanding of that question whatsoever.

Hi A Fact! I was just asking about you yesterday. How's it going?

Heya kitcat! Things are pretty good! Gwyn had some great results yesterday! We will be updating her caringbridge later today but both of her eyes have somehow gotten better to a small degree vision rating wise! she is still legally blind in her left eye but it is a little better. And they said that would probably never change since the tumor was destroying the optic nerves and they cannot heal. We are having a very good day. How are you?

Just having fun with the Chin lung Hu name. It had no relevance to your previous quote, which I should not have used. What can I say? **** happens.

i suspect santana is concerned b/c after being highly durable for a number of years he has had injury probs these last few....including pitching thru some injury probs last time mets were in a race. i suspect he's taking a longer view this time.

i'll be first to agree that johan has started the inevitable decline. but the dude is a gamer, i'm not about to question that.

Johan is a gamer, hasnt been quite the same since he left Minnesota but, appart from most Twins fans I dont begrudge the man for hitting the lottery and moving on to NY (at least it wasnt the Yankees). Still a hell of a pitcher, even with his best days behind him now, not a hundred percent on this but I think he still posted a sub-3 ERA last year and, in a very Mets-like fashion, couldnt generate enough runs to get him more than a 11-9 record.
