Barkley: D'Antoni's system will fail Knicks

08:16 AM ET 01.28 | Count Charles Barkley among the doubters. Amar'e Stoudemire may have brought the buzz back to the Garden this season, reuniting with his former Phoenix coach Mike D'Antoni to make the Knicks relevant again, but at least one Hall of Famer thinks D'Antoni's high-octane offensive system will never be rewarded with an NBA title. "I do not think (the Knicks) can win with that system. I saw it in Phoenix. And let me tell you something, they had a lot more talent in Phoenix. A lot more. Let me just tell you this -- the three most critical areas of the game are defense, rebounding and turnovers. That's one of the fundamental flaws of that system." ... Barkley, who led the Suns to the NBA Finals in 1993, then proceeded to pick apart D'Antoni's system even further.

QUOTE(#2):

There are 3 things that are certain in this world. Death, taxes, and Charles Barkley having an opinion.

Yeah... but you have to admit... he has a point.

Aparently it is working so far.

QUOTE(#3):

...and one more thing. I realize its just 1 win, but I thoroughly enjoyed watching the Heat go down last night at MSG. I think it said as much or more about what's wrong with the Heat, as is what's right with the Knicks.

Right again Doc... Miami remains pretty fragile. If everything and everyone are working right the Heat will be a problem for most teams. But when everything isn't running at top speed they're pretty average. Lose one of the big 3 and they kind of suck

And honestly... how often does a team have everyone healthy and everything going right?

QUOTE(#11):

Different team, different time, different league, different conference. NY is not Phoenix and vice versa. But, with that said, people the right to question Mike D's system as ut relates to championships since so far it hasn't won him any. We shall see.

Yup we will see.....

Charles is living in the past. Of course Mike's system of no defense in Phoenix didn't get it done in the playoffs. But times have changed. Knicks play defense. Anybody that keeps rhyming that crap doesn't follow the Knicks close enough. Now I'm not saying our defense is good enough to win championships but I'm not blind to the fact that Knicks have made significant strides on defense.

Yeah their defense is better i'll admit but will it be good enough for playoff ball??? we'll see......

Exactly so why go on a limb to make ignorant statements. I like Barkley as a comedian but when he tries to say something insightful or forecast the future he fails miserably. Wasn't he the same guy that said Nets will have a better season that Knicks and that Knicks will be in the lottery again... how's that working on old man? Keep the Knicks outta your mouth unless you got something nice to say.

QUOTE(#18):

Do you think anyone is saying anything that Mike D hasn't considered himself? He knows Phoenix didn't win a title. He was there. Does anybody think he wants to repeat that experience? Also, has anyone considered that his system was the way it was because of the players he had? You can't make chicken soup with chicken sh--, and you can't teach a dog to be a cat. But what's the point? Either the Knicks will flourish under the D'Antoni system and win a title or they won't. And until or unless we win a championship people have the right to doubt us all they wish. Unlike the Pimpston's of the world, I make no excuses.

Yup at least they'll get to the playoffs this year that can be a hope holder until they get another superstar or a great center....
