08:22 AM ET 01.28 | The post of Director of Public Safety in Stamford, Ct., is not merely ceremonial for former Mets manager Bobby Valentine. Traffic getting on and off the highway was particularly hectic throughout the morning in Stamford and Darien. Northbound lanes were shut down completely near exit 12 from 4:30 a.m. until about 9:30 a.m., resulting in a traffic nightmare that extended for several miles. That led Valentine to believe he needed to help out. "Everyone was going on the ramp and 95 was all backed up," Valentine said. "I was just trying to get people going in the right direction so there were no accidents, to make things a little easier."

yeah but he can be funny too. Like when Bobby got thrown out of a game, and came back to the dugout wearing a fake mustache...

He should be used to directing traffic. When he managed the Rangers there was so much action on the pitchers mound he needed a whistle.

He thought that was a better gig than the Mets.

Bobby tried telling drivers what to do, and where to go. Just like his coaching career: most people ignored him, and those that didn't ended up in a wreck.
