10:07 AM ET 01.30 | Georgia Tech coach Paul Johnson and longtime commitment Tre Jackson of Wayne County parted ways on Thursday. Jackson confirmed via text message to the AJC that he no longer had his Georgia Tech scholarship offer because he had agreed to take an official visit to Florida State this weekend. The 6-foot-4, 290-pound defensive tackle had been committed to Georgia Tech since last October. Jackson was approached within the last couple of weeks by FSU, among other schools.

A text message to the AJC?
Isn't that like whispering in TMZ's ear?

Funny how they didn't yank Stephon Tuitt's offer when he committed to Notre Dame last September. Guess they don't want Jackson as badly.

It is as FJJ conjectures. Johnson played by the rules understood by all parties. It's the prerogative of the institutions to make guidelines and follow them.

Exactly. Complete crap. I don't know why coaches and parents don't stress more DO NOT COMMITT until you have taken all the visits you think you need. How freakin hard is that???

Strange move unless GT has someone else in mind they want to hand the scholarship to. If the kid wants to look elsewhere then so be it. No one is truly committed until they sign on the line. It is the job of the coaching staff to keep their recruits in line until then. On the other hand, the kid could have lost favor in their eyes over the past year and they used the visit as an out. Who knows. He's a 3 star rated lineman so it's not like they are saying good bye to a 4 or 5 star kid.
