Why A-Rod won't be a Met

The Mets will almost certainly meet with Scott Boras at the GM Meetings to gauge the Alex Rodriguez situation. But as has been the case since the superstar opted out, they're still viewed as a longshot in the A-Rod sweepstakes. One of those obstacles is Rodriguez's expected financial demands. But another is obviously his position. Mets GM Omar Minaya admitted yesterday that neither third base (due to David Wright) nor shortstop (due to Jose Reyes) was a place the Mets require help.

Could always put him at second
but it was a longshot, we should get some pitching instead if A-Rod

November 6, 2007  07:25 AM ET

pitching pitching pitching that's all we need...trust me I wouldn't mind having A-Rod but we don't need 3B or SS players...so far every team is a long shot come on the were even talking about Florida so don't count the Mets out...but like I said we need PITCHING

Pitching indeed.

no 7, Funny you should say that because that thought just flashed through my mind as I read the Daily News this morning and had my coffee. Why not have him move to second? He could be another Pete Rose when he plays first at the end of his career. He would probably be an all star at each position by the time he retires and people will despise him just as much as they do Rose while admitting he was a great player who should be in the Hall. The only differnce is that as far as we know the fool has never gambled on baseball and the fool will actually be in the Hall five years after he retires.

The bottom line however for any teaam that wants to add the fool to their lineup is pitching, pitching, and more pitching. Spend the money on getting and developing pitchers and getting steady grind it out, down and dirty players who hunger for the ring

One player I hope the Mets get is Jorge Posada, good catcher and switch hitter with power I would them the get him

i dont get the fuss of signing A-rod, good as he is but he has never won on any team he has been on. every team he was on had glaring problems at pitching as would be the case with the mets if he signs. plus if he does, that would seriously hamper our chances of signing johan next offseason because that would be two players for a total of at least $50 mil. (30 to a-rod, 20 for Johan) which i think is too much.
if he does sign, he prob. plays 3B with wright moving to LF, can see a-rod playing at 2B.

November 6, 2007  08:32 AM ET

I do agree with swmlon and Smashmouthrules but I much as I would like to see A-Rod in orange and blue I just don't see it happening

November 6, 2007  08:50 AM ET

With Donny now with Joe.. do not be surprised if some go over to the Dodgers..

November 6, 2007  08:53 AM ET

Can't wait and see where this loser ends up going to!!!

November 6, 2007  08:59 AM ET

Please Omar . . . NO A-Rod!!!!!!!!
1. pitching, 2. pitching, and 3. young pitching

November 6, 2007  08:59 AM ET

Hey A-Rod,

The Dodgers will welcome you with open arms and a warm heart. The LA times can careless about your personal life. You will never be called Spray Rod by the local paper. Just come to LA and you will be embraced and cheered like your days in Seattle.

Get out of NYC period.

November 6, 2007  09:21 AM ET

BORAROD know exactly how Mets fans are going to treat him in NY. No chance. Dodgers and Angels will have a bitting war.

November 6, 2007  09:42 AM ET

The Mets will be the biggest idiots on the planet for signing him. The Mets need pitching(starting and bullpen help) in the worst way. Now, if they trade Beltran for a great starter(which is what I would do if I were them) then I could see them going after A-Rod. But they don't need hitting right now. Seriously, the bullpen was horribly awful at times.

November 6, 2007  09:48 AM ET

Coletrain you have to be kidding trading Beltran you have to be an idiot yourself that would be a dumb move wow...3B, SS, CF are locked down for a long time...wow what an idiot

November 6, 2007  09:49 AM ET

I love it, its not aA-Rod's fault, its the pitching. That might have some truth to it, however if A-Rod were on a team with outstanding pitching...who would need him?

November 6, 2007  09:51 AM ET

i wonder if he can pitch? that way when he pitchs you know he will hit and when he doesnt pitch he can pinch hit.

November 6, 2007  09:52 AM ET

I realize Beltran is a great hitter, but he doesn't seem right for NY. I'm talking about trading him for someone great, like Johan Santana or Jake Peavy(since he might be out of San Diego soon). The Mets have much more hitting than pitching. They have no real ace at all.
