08:03 AM ET 01.31 | Jim Skipper, a holdover from John Fox's staff in Carolina, had been considered for a role with Ron Rivera but has been let go. Skipper said Sunday that Rivera called him to break the news, but that he wasn't surprised by it. "It's disappointing, but I knew it when I went in for the interview," Skipper said. "This was a courtesy thing, and the only reason they did it was because the players spoke up for me." ... The Panthers' backs had waged a bit of a lobbying effort on Skipper's behalf, trying to keep the coach who helped them to success. Free agent-to-be DeAngelo Williams said in late November keeping Skipper would go a long way toward convincing him to stay, and Jonathan Stewart, Mike Goodson and Tyrell Sutton each took to Twitter to express their support.

Well with Goodson looking pretty solid last season and Stewart definately has the ability to be an every down back... this is pretty whatever really.

Williams is pretty solid and I'd like to see him in New England, but I doubt they would give him the big bucks

I like how Rivera handled this: face to face. The position coach didn't have to hear about it on ESPN or the radio first.

Not so much duplicates, just a question that begged to be repeated. A lot of us out here have respect for our Panthers. Go Carolina!!!
