Frustrated Lakers ready to make moves

08:53 PM ET 01.31 | The Lakers officially entered crisis mode Monday, when general manager Mitch Kupchak told NBA.com that the recent poor play by the two-time defending champions may drive him to make a trade to shake up an underachieving roster. "Regarding a trade, I may have to," Kupchak said at the team's practice facility a day after the convincing loss to their heated rivals, the Celtics. "I'm not saying that I've made calls today or I'll make them tomorrow. But I just don't think that we're playing as well as our talent level should allow us." Even speaking in his usual measured tones, Kupchak's disappointment and frustration were obvious. More importantly, while saying he had not talked to owner Jerry Buss since being controlled by the Celtics in the fourth quarter at Staples Center, Kupchak said, "I'd be surprised if he feels any different."

if there's a team that can engineer a lopsided trade like a walton-melo one, it's the lakers. Remember the Gasol trade of a few years ago????

I don't think the Lakers need a trade but, they do need reason to play harder. For example, when the Lakers played Boston in the finals three years and loss by 39 points , they had a good reason to get back to the finals and win it. Unfortunately, Boston was eliminated in the 2009 playoff and the Lakers won against Orlando. Last year, Lakers played against Boston and won it. This year, the Lakers think they have nothing to prove. I think they do have something to prove. With a better team than the previous years, they should be on the top instead of trying to hold the second best record in the Western Conference. I just hope the Lakers play defense instead of waiting until the fourth quarter to start playing.

Carmelo is not the "God" a lot of media analysts paint him out to be... He can score but plays no defense and does not play well with his team... Sounds like a problem the Lakers already have in Kobe, we need someone who will pass the ball and get everyone involved.... I rather have Jason Kidd than Carmelo.

Jerry West has never owned any team. Hell, he wasn't even affiliated with the Grizzlies when the trade happened because he had quiet before then.

trade steve blake and luke walton for andre miller. if the nuggets are desperate, try to trade for chauncey billups. billups or miller are on my top pg trade list.

I've hated the Lakers for longer than I care to remember. I've seen this before. Just when you think they're going down for the 3rd time, they suddenly go through some kind of metamorphosis and run off 12 of the next 15.

I thought they said a shake up? Trading a so-so point guard for someone who is slightly better isn't much of a shakeup (din't Blake and Miller play almost similar minutes in Portland)?

i dont think so i think they were in and out of the starting lineups. blake started for the first couple of games of the season when they stunk and miller took over his spot and the blazers got significantly better.

I believe a good steal for the Guard/PG position is courtney lee, who plays for the rockets. An athletic player who proved he could provide energy for a top team when he was in Orlando. As for who to trade, the lakers could give up artest, who has yet to understand the lakers offense. But the question is who would houston want in return?
