Beckett's disaster? Francona has a theory

08:23 AM ET 02.01 | Terry Francona is asking Josh Beckett to be himself, which means cutting down on the cutters. Francona partially attributed Beckett's problems last season to making too many changes. "I think he had time to sit when he was hurt, and he was watching [left-hander Jon] Lester and [righty Clay] Buchholz throwing those cutters. All of a sudden, he started doing that," Francona said last night before a NESN-televised, town hall-style meeting with fans. "He'd throw one good one, then he'd throw three bad ones." Overall, Beckett threw his cut fastball 15.3 percent of the time, according to the statistical database FanGraphs.com. His previous high was 5.1 percent in 2009.

Red Sox need Beckett back to being lights out this year...2 weeks till they report to spring training - cannot wait.

Terry Francona is asking Josh Beckett to be himself, which means wearing Pippy Longstocking socks, assless chaps, a tutu, his Red Sox jersey and a tiara on the mound.

And, hey, he's only three injury plagued seasons with a 4.39 ERA removed from being lights out!

No cut in the cutter, aka: batting practice.

Wow. That gives new meaning to the term "flame thrower."

Yeah, throw more fast balls...I am sure that will work.

Francona asked Beckett to be himself, whereby Beckett proceeded to strip to his waist and do a riverdance on Francona's desk.
Francona is reconsidering his advice.

Has this guy ever been lights out? What one year in his 10-12 years, maybe?

Imagine Dice-K's embarassment when they both show up for a game wearing the same outfit.

Matsuzaka doesn't like the jersey, though. He prefers a bikini top made of hamachi.

Funny lol...

... what Francona stated doesn't seem logical.

Also, doesn't explain his bad year in 2006 when Buccholz was in the minors and Lester was not a top notch pitcher at the time.

It's probably best to say "he's recovered in the past, if healthy, we expect Josh to peform well this year...".

Keep it simple.

He was good in 2007 during the regular season...

... possibly "lights out" during the playoffs that year.

But, has not been consistent throughout his entire career.

He is odd. Even his better years were on the odd numbered years. (Well, let's not count when he was in the NL.) So they got him ready for this odd numbered year, 2011?
