Barnes may finally have arrived

08:26 AM ET 02.01 | Harrison Barnes' final shot attempt against N.C. State was a rare misstep in what might have been his coming-out party. He had hit 10 of his previous 15 shots, including the last four, scoring 25 points while sustaining a level of play that had previously only surfaced in short bursts so far in his freshman year. ... The game looked effortless to Barnes as he converted shot after shot with an array of step-back jumpers, contested layups and wide-open shots, shattering his previous points-per-game average of 11.8. "Maybe he just got fired up for this game," N.C. State coach Sidney Lowe said. "But it is there. Everybody knows it is there. He showed everyone what he was capable of doing. That was no accident that he made the shots and made the plays. He played well, got in a groove and felt good."

Bucks #1! (For Now)

Morning HM - Your boys are still on top, and looking goood.

I'm just glad my Cougs didn't drop out of the top 10.

Morning All Out. You said they might have a let down, good call, but sorry it happened. They will be alright IMO, I hope.

I hate it when I'm right (wife calls me a pessimist - I see myself as a realist, of course).

The Pit is just too dangerous a venue to not be on your A-game. I had to follow the game by internet, and when I saw we couldn't separate in the first half, and any run in the second was absorbed, I knew we were in trouble.

But JRM is right, end of season ranking is the important one - Hopefully this loss keeps us humble and hungry to the end; still gotta play SDSU at their place.

Hard to drop when everyone else loss as well

Yeah, I was real excited about the possibilities (many of those games were posted before BYU-NM even tipped off).

Then reality . . .

The reality is you still have Jimmer...and that is all that matters. A one man show can certainly lead a team deep into March (see Stephen Curry).

What took him so long, miss the bus?

As long as he didn't have to pull himself out from under it, he should be okay.

Am I the only one that saw the headline and assumed they meant Rick Barnes?

February 1, 2011  02:34 PM ET

NCSU doesn't play defense and he was being guarded by the laziest player on the State roster CJ Leslie. I wouldn't get too excited about one game.

Fuzzy, your hating would make sense had Barnes not missed plenty of wide open, uncontested jump shots against crappy Ds in many games earlier in the season. The quality of NC State's defense is somewhat irrelevant. But, don't let me get in the way of your agenda. Notice the title includes the word 'may' - no one is guaranteeing anything.

One and done?

Well, after dropping 26 on BC I'd like to think that this is what we were expecting from Barnes. (or hoping for) Still a lot of season left but it's going to be fun watching him develop...
