Are Sox insiders to Mitchell Report?

The Mitchell Report hovers over this offseason. Many teams are proceeding cautiously on obtaining players this offseason in fear that the player they give millions to today will be degraded in the near future should they be named in George Mitchell's findings. An executive from another NL team raised another persistent concern about this report: Mitchell's conflict of interest. Mitchell is listed as the director of the Red Sox, and the NL official said, "What if Boston is about to sign a player, Mitchell learns about it and the player is in the report? Are we supposed to believe that with a financial stake in the team, he is not going to warn the Red Sox?"

Interesting. Now we can go into game fixing. The Second coming of the Black Sox

Don't be stupid. While the public and the media are unfamiliar with the Mitchell report, you can bet the Red Sox -- and every other team in MLB -- know who is on the list. When you are spending the amout of money they are, they know who is on it and who isn't. Remember, baseball management is a closed community.

Just release the freaking list already then all this speculation will be moot.

The longer they wait, the more worrying the issue becomes.
Why don't they just release the damned list and be done with it?

November 6, 2007  08:57 AM ET

agreed, just get it over with, if you're sure that there will no consequences to the committee.

As for conflict of interest, that should have been taken care of before the whole thing started, however as it look now, that's unavoidable.

Another case of the NY media passing unfounded stories about the Red Sox. That's like the NY Times article a few weeks back where the writer insinuated that the Sox were dirty because they never get mentioned in any steroid probes. That's like me saying that writer is a murderer because she has never been accused of murder.

Love the jealous NY media. NY has never learned how to deal with not being the top story and now they just make stuff up.

I clearly admit that Mitchell's tie to the Sox looks bad. But I don't for a second think he is giving them any kind of preferential treatment. I just don't.

Hey... here's an idea: Let's stop putting these guys who COULD have a conflict of interest, into these frigging roles! I mean, that would be as stupid as having a team OWNER become COMMISSIONER!!!

...oh yeah...

November 6, 2007  09:51 AM ET

Naw... I changed my mind. Like I used to tell my mom: Hey, if I'm getting accused of it, I may as well do it!

What's worse? That attitude, or the B.S. slinging coming out of -- get this -- THE POST!!! A step-and-a-half from going "weekly world news" on us all, and reporting on Clinton's past meetings with the Alien.

November 6, 2007  09:58 AM ET

Well...I have no Idea whether theyt are or they aren't. Apparently there is going to be a shadow cast over the Red Sox repeatedly for any thought of impropriety that the Mitchell commission may encounter. This story will show up again and true or not it is going to have legs.

Wasn't it a little suspicious when Paul Byrd's name was linked to HGH when Boston was behind in the series to Cleveland?? Now, exactly how did that happen!!

November 6, 2007  10:27 AM ET

What a non story. This was from the NY Post so consider the source, Rupert Murdoch's company. NY can't deal with the emergence of Red Sox Nation.

November 6, 2007  10:31 AM ET

Unlike those "reasonable" rags in Boston?

November 6, 2007  10:45 AM ET

Paul Byrd's name was leaked out after he pitched against the Sox. He wasn't going to pitch again against them.

November 6, 2007  11:07 AM ET

Ok..enough already! Give us the feckin' list......

November 6, 2007  11:15 AM ET

lendaleusc06 - you made a very interesting point.

makeham - Doesn't matter. You don't think that would be a distraction that could effect the team?

That being said, I'm a fan of both teams and there are no excuses - the best team won. You've got to deal with pressure no matter where it comes from. Even if it was intentionally leaked to create a disruption, the Indians did not lose the series because of it. To whine about it would be akin to putting on a Yankee Fan Skirt and whining about bugs.

Yeah, tell me who the F did shot that good young Irish lad?
1) Even if the Post is a rag even it has to be right once in awhile. Take that any wya yo uwant.
2) Every city has its rags. It just seems Fanantion loves to use the Post for many of its threads. Why that is I haven't the foggiest. Look at today. I wear they took one storey and made at least three threads from it.
