Lakers covet Hinrich, lack assets

08:12 AM ET 02.02 | The Lakers' interest in making a move may not match their ability to do so. There isn't much room to maneuver because 10 of their 14 players are 30 or older and the franchise is already burdened by the league's highest payroll ($90 million). ... One thing looks certain: the Lakers have "zero" chance of obtaining Denver Nuggets All-Star Carmelo Anthony, according to a person familiar with the Lakers' thinking who declined to elaborate. The Lakers and Jackson have always coveted guard Kirk Hinrich, who is averaging 10.9 points and 4.5 assists for the Washington Wizards. Hinrich, 30, makes $9 million this season and $8 million next season.

Blake and a first rounder should do but if anything Lakers need motivation more than anything else.

He would be a good addition. Wizards management might be sufficiently inept to bail out LAL.

The Wizards won't take Blake. They would want a young player (Shannon Brown perhaps) not a player thats been in the league for almost 10 years. The draft pick they would take. But the problem with the Lakers is what they can trade, no team wants to have. Fisher, too old. Odom to much money and takes to many games off. Artest, lets not go there. Kobe and Gasol, not going any where.

I dont think they even consider trading odom even though he has the most value.....he does to much for that team and if they are going to defend their title he is needed more than people think

Come to LA, Bro.

I doubt it, they just traded for him in the off season and he starts for them. Add to that the Lakers have zero to trade like the article said.

Bash the contract... I did. But I still think Kirk is a starting level point guard on the right team and the Lakers are one of those teams. Kirk is a clear upgrade over Fisher or Blake.

Trade Artest/Barnes and Blake to get him...

I watched Kirk for he better part of a decade and you hit it right on the head. Decent to good defender with a suspect jump shot. Thats exactly what he is. The issue with Kirks carrier is that he never got any better. Probably because he is just not athletic and can't jump. I don't know if he can even dunk a basketball, I never saw him do it in Chicago.

Collins is too young, promising and cheap for the Pacers to give up. He fits right into their model of keeping a bunch of cheap contracts. I don't even know why Lakers are interested in trading at this time of the year. The risks are too high. They're right there with the best... all they gotta do is get their bigs in better shape so they can compete at a consistent level through out the game.
I think they will be ready when it counts. It all depends on what state of health and conditioning Bynum is in. That's the tricky part.

Nope. I love Collison because he played at UCLA but he is more suited to running up and down the court in a fast paced offense, not the Triangle.

They have to do something to shake up the complacency. And Kirk is a smart player, son of a coach, blah, blah. He can make the adjustment to the Triangle and make it smoothly.

He is a good shooter, 44.5% iabove his average og 41.6, 36.5% is good enough and he makes his FT's.
