08:05 AM ET 02.03 | Jay Cutler may have pushed harder to return to the NFC Championship Game than many would like to believe. Amid questions that he didn't try hard enough to play through a knee injury, Cutler received a painkiller shot at halftime of the NFC title game, a source close to the situation told the Sun-Times. It's believed Cutler injured his knee on the first play of the second quarter, when Green Bay Packers defensive lineman Ryan Pickett landed on his left knee. ... Cutler headed to the locker room for halftime ahead of his teammates, and doctors and trainers confirmed their initial, on-field assessment. It's believed the team planned to shelve him for the remainder of the game, at that point but that Cutler insisted on trying to play and received a painkiller injection to ease the pain.

Still would have liked to see him be more supportive of young Caleb instead of standing off to the side away from everyone... but Cutler gets a pass on that game.

Load of crap. Loser and quitter.

I'm sure if you sustained an injury to your knee that you would be able to carry your team to victory. Cut the kid some slack.

I wonder who the source close to the situation told the Sun-Times was? An anonymous email from Jay Cutler perhaps?

QUOTE(#4):

The picture of him sitting on the bench and not paying attention to the game told me everything I need to know about this guy.

Loads of talent... but I wouldn't want him on my team.

Can we just move on here?

Agreed. As far as I'm concerned, he lost interest and passion after he went out. He sure didn't support Hanie at all. Maybe he didn't want to be seen as a clipboard carrier. Then again, the pouting look doesn't exactly paint him as a warrior and leader.

Seems like Cutler has taken more than his fair share of shots recently.

You reap what you sow. Cutler has generated a lot of bad karma with his actions and attitude, and so he's not going to get a lot of sympathy even when he gets a legitimate injury. Time for some image rehab. Maybe he can use Ben Roethlisberger as his role model.

Fairly or unfairly, he brings a lot of it upon himself.

Given his play in the first half, one would have thought he took that painkiller in the base of his skull, before the game. Good knee or bad knee, he wasn't moving the team that day.

Agreed. The game is over and the Superbowl is here. If he has anything to prove, bring it next year.

At this point, who cares. I hurt my knee and it is ridiculously hard to continue to play. Now add Clay Matthews and BJ Raji putting consistent pressure on him. Cutler was already inaccurate that day. Now add in that you can't plant your leg. This story became a -itch fest because people don't like Cutler.

For once, I can say I don't blame McDaniels for making this move.

That's a big "IF"

It's funny, when has he before took himself out of a game? You'll be pressed for an answer.

That just proves he is the toughest man in all of football ... ever!!!
