08:32 AM ET 02.05 | North Carolina coach Roy Williams learned at around 9 a.m. Friday - via a phone call from Larry Drew Sr. - that junior point guard Larry Drew II was leaving school immediately and transferring. The decision by Drew - who was playing his best basketball of the season after being replaced in the starting lineup four games ago - is shocking because of the timing.

If he transfers to Duke, there just might be riots in North Carolina on par with what's going on in Egypt right now.

Kid still has to have daddy do it for him. Transferring happens all the time but grow up and tell the coach yourself.

It's more of a choice thing. My cousins used II but Dad didn't add Sr.

Son: "Daddy they said I can't start anymore. Am I a bad player, daddy, am I??"
Father: "No son you're a superstar. It doesn't matter you can't put the ball in the basket. Let's go somewhere else where they appreciate you."
Son: "Thanks dad, your the greatest!"

He should have made this move last year... The kid is crazy talented, but Roy Williams has been making him play out of position to cover-up his recruiting failures...
As a sixth man, he comes off the bench playing his regular spot and thrives. Another program can showcase his ability a lot better (let's face it, he's most likely in it for the NBA face time not the education). So why not transfer?

the recruiting mistake was him...he started in his position for 18 games...the coach played him out of position b/c he was trying to get a better player on the floor...starting him that many games cost them at least 2 seeds in the tournament... he seems like a nice kid but maybe he lost his confidence... he's now a short skinny guard with a shaky jumper who's acts as if he thinks the paint is wet...roy's no genius but this isn't his fault...now not calling timeouts until the other team finishes their run definitely is...hope your boy lands on his feet

There will not be any transfers between UNC & Duke in any major sport in our lifetimes.

Sharon Drew sounds like an idiot. She's been nagging Roy since Drew went there (despite the lengths to which Roy defended Larry to the media criticism of his play and continued to let him start for the last two seasons until a *freshmen* was outplaying him in practice), and she has also nagged the coach of the high school team Larry's brother Landon plays for in California to the point *that* coach dropped Landon from the team because he couldn't put up with the mother's meddling anymore. The parents haven't done their children any benefits by branding them malcontents, quitters and thin-skinned wusses with shaky play. Larry Drew didn't start for merely the last 4 games (and still played well off the bench) yet still pouted and took his ball home while letting Papa Drew make the call to Coach Williams to tell him the news. Plus, he quit just before a tough upcoming stretch. I don't see many takers out there for a spoiled brat, a meddling mom and an enabling dad.
