New York's MMA ban costs millions

09:25 AM ET 02.05 | Mixed martial arts continues to do big business all across the country -- except New York. And that's not going to change any time soon. New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo omitted the sanctioning of MMA from his 2011-12 budget proposal, meaning it is unlikely MMA will be sanctioned during this year's legislative session. The money MMA could bring into New York isn't going to solve the budget deficit, but $23 million and 200 jobs shouldn't be ignored.

what is New York trying to prove.

Shirt is funny, and about New York they have a ton of boxing people there. If they give up and let MMA enter, they can kiss one of the last places where boxing is somewhat big "Madison Square Garden". They are just scared!!!

sorry kiss it goodbye!

It's New York's loss.

At least they can have events in New Jersey for the NYC fans.

I would still love to see Anderson Silva vs GSP in MSG.

February 6, 2011  09:14 AM ET

Anyone is the Silva vs. Belfort fight? That was a joke of a fight.

February 6, 2011  09:19 AM ET

Silva had that nice front kick. For a main event I didn't like it. Anyone saying GSP vs. Silva!

Has anyone seen the "Inside MMA" show with Bas Ruten where they did a segment on the guy behind the group that is lobbying against MMA in the State of NY? The guy's reasoning was out of this world, and it was so funny when they cut back to the studio and they asked Joe Rogan his opinion. Joe's not one to hold anything back, and he ripped into the guy pretty good. It's a good view if you want to learn more about why MMA is having trouble taking hold in NY.

I love how this article starts out. MMA doing big businness everywhere except NY. Great decisino Cuomo! What city needs an extra 23 mil and 200 more jobs? Not NY I guess, there doin' just fine?

WAIT A MINUTE...

I know why the city deosn't want MMA there. The Steinbrenner's need that 23 mil to buy another player or two!
