08:39 AM ET 02.08 | Sharks fans, this is likely your club for the rest of the season. The NHL trade deadline is only three weeks away, but with his team on a 7-0-1 roll as it faces Alexander Ovechkin and the Washington Capitals on Tuesday night, Sharks general manager Doug Wilson does not sound like someone about to wheel and deal. "We've already made changes," Wilson said, referring to the Jan. 18 acquisitions of Kyle Wellwood and Ben Eager. "The majority of changes now are going to be the growth of our own players, playing up to their abilities and they're trending in the right direction."

"The majority of changes now are going to be the growth of our own players."

If Dougie's looking for growth Wellwood should provide it. The Canucks didn't call him Kyle "Wellfed" for nothing.

ahhhh... Kyle "what's a corner" Wellwood. Problem solved.

February 8, 2011  08:56 AM ET

Right now, they are sitting towards the bottom of the Conference, but so are many other teams. They will have to fight and claw for a spot, no doubt. If Wilson likes the way things are keeping this team how it is knowing that, so be it.

"they're trending in the right direction."

Yup, right out of the playoffs...

February 8, 2011  09:27 AM ET

This is where the PR men trot out the "building for the future" lines now that the team has obviously decided to accept mediocrity.

And ... judging by passed playoff performances, we'll have to wait a while longer to see Joe Thornton show some growth.

So the tag on the front page of cnnsi.com that took me to this T&R link was "San Jose Still Struggling". 7-0-1 is struggling huh? An article about the team not making anymore deals is headlined with "Struggling". Anyone else notice a severe drop off in SI's hockey coverage since Allan Muir left?

Sure but, can they make Thornton grow a pair? Must be hart to make a set of gonads grow when all you have to work with is peanuts.

That is nasty- i am told the most nasty was when it warmed up and the scrotums thawed the whole countryside was blanketed with anguished cries of the bulls......i know scary right??? shudder shudder sorry back to hockey....

Sean Avery's are so manly and laden with testosterone that they wouldn't freeze.

I'm pretty sure he could spawn at Absolute Zero.

Checked the standings lately? They are sitting in 6th in the conference (win tonight and they are in 4th) and only 3 points out of first in the Pacific Division. They have gone 7-0-1 in their last 8 games.

They are 7-0-1 in their last 8. They keep up this pace and they will have a top 3 spot in the playoffs.
