Young: Sick of Rangers' treatment

08:17 AM ET 02.08 | Whether the Rangers are able to swing a deal for Michael Young is uncertain, but one thing's for sure: the relationship between the two has become fractured. The Rangers claim Young recently requested a trade for the second time in 25 months because he changed his mind about his willingness to DH. Young claims he made the request because he changed his mind about his trust in management. "I've kept a low profile out of respect for the team, the coaching staff, my family and the fans because I didn't want to put anybody on an unnecessary roller coaster," Young said. ... "The suggestion that I've simply had a change of heart and asked for a trade is a manipulation of the truth. I want to be traded because I've been misled and manipulated, and I'm sick of it," Young added.

The Rangers have two dozen 1st baseman/3rd baseman/DH's on the roster.

i agree with this guy. i believe he has earned a certain amount of respect that the rangers just have not shown him. he has been a class act throughout his career and never once complained, show the man a little respect.

Young is, of course, correct. The Rangers could have made him a lifetime Ranger, allowed him to play out his contract, then encouraged him to stay with the team in some capacity. He could have been the team's Ripken or Gwynn. Now, here is the consummate Ranger, the clubhouse leader, blasting the team.
However, it proves again that sports is a business. Good luck at your next stop, Michael Young.

If the Pujols talks really are going as bad as advertised, how about Young and Cruz for Pujols with no cash involved? Young might have quite a bit in the tank if he's returned to his natural 2B position.

I can't figure out why the Rangers are screwing around with Young. They have for a couple of years now. Why? I haven't heard reports that he's a problem in the club house. I've heard just the opposite, that he's a leader on the team.
Is he worth $16m? No, but take the top 20 highest paid players and only 1 or 2 are worth the money. And any trade will involve eating $8-10m/year of his contract. So how does it make sense to move him?
But it does look like it's past the point of no return now.

So, this is a just little preview of what will happen when Jeter is moved to leftfield or DH in a year or two. Overpaid middle infielders with diminishing range and big egos are huge albatrosses

The Angels took on the Wells contract, so anything is possible. But it's doubtful they'll find anyone that desperate and stupid

To be fair to Young, he moved to 2b to accomodate A-Rod, he moved to SS to accomodate Kinsler, he moved the 3b to accomodate Andrus. Few players of this generation if any have been more what's best for the team oriented than Young. It is a business for sure but seems this could have been handled a lot better by management.
Not to mention, what exactly is the upgrade of Beltre over Young other than 2 years in age.

The Joba Chamberlain of the south. He doesn't know what position he'll play from year to year.

perhaps, I have not seen any geek stats on Young's effectiveness at 3b. He did win a gold glove his last year at short. Any UZR experts out there?
I'd counter that by saying it appears his teammates love the guy, and Beltre isn't exactly known as s warm and fuzzy teammate. Playing with team chemistry more often than not is a bad idea.

Whenever a team loses in the WS, they feel they need to add that one missing piece. Adding Beltre was basically a lateral move. Nothing gained unless Young does agree to DH then it's an upgrade.
