08:42 AM ET 02.11 | Tomas Kaberle's is not the only name being floated as the next player out of Toronto. [Kris] Versteeg became a popular dressing room attraction Thursday morning. "It's uneasy, you know? It's hard to put that in the back of your mind and go out and play and try to be a factor every night," he said. ... The Boston Bruins are among the teams speaking with the Leafs, with general manager Peter Chiarelli confirming as much to The Boston Globe on Wednesday. He said he was "looking to deal," and said he was willing to part with the first-round draft pick he landed as part of the deal that sent forward Phil Kessel to Toronto two years ago.

BB trading FOR a first round pick? Maybe the Aztecs were right.................the world could be ending.

February 11, 2011  08:52 AM ET

Petey's just setting the hook and he'll be reeling in the fat bassterd very soon.

February 11, 2011  08:56 AM ET

I haven't checked any of the couting reports in a long time. How weak is this draft going to be? Folks are throwing around draft picks like it's nothing.

Wasn't Versteeg one of the saviours?

So what happened Burkie?

February 11, 2011  09:12 AM ET

Versteeg was originally a Bruins draft pick and played a few games for the baby B's before being traded to Chicago.

Check out this OT goal by Kovalchuk as he goes 1 on 2 against Celine and Aulie.

Maybe Burkie's looking in the wrong place?

February 11, 2011  09:51 AM ET

Aulie is good. Phaneuf sucks. Aulie was the best player involved in the Flame deal, in fact I'd deal all the guys the Leafs dealt in that deal just for Aulie.

I really like the Leafs wingers, and like Riemer in net. But moving forward, they need a true #1 centre *cough* Brad Richards *cough* (so Grabovski moves to the #2, Bozak to #3, and Brent #4), and then I like the Leafs forward group.

But the defense appears beyond repair. Aulie and Schenn are good shutdown guys, but after that they've got nothing.

Yes it was...especially after Celine had been yapping at Kovy all night. :-)

Great play by Kovy, horrible play by the D. You gotta take the man there, especially if you have back up. PLAY THE BODY.

Hey Argos long time bud. It's nice to see that working for MLSE hasn't "changed" you.

Don't let Burkie read this Argos or he'll will be trying to pick Kukla and Fran.
(That's just for us old guys.)

Argos.. they need more than that.

1) #1 Centre
2) #2 Centre - Leafs will not win with Grabovski as a #2. Bozak they can hhold onto for development. I would deal Grabbo, his value will NEVER be higher.
3) A power forward - truly a PF. A guy that can score 20, help out the #1 line, do the grunt work so Mrs. Kessel can score his ballerina goals.
4) A veteran goalie for next season, a Roloson type that can help Reimer out. Rynnas is still a season away.

I like Schenn, Aulie and Phaneuf. Phaneuf has to play with a defensive minded guy who can make up for his occasional gaffes. The problem with Dion is that he doesn't have the confidence right now to be the freelancing roaming hit-machine and goal scorer he was a few years ago. Maybe pairing him with a shutdown guy like Aulie will be will get him going, willing to play all-out, which is his best shot.

Keepers - Aulie, Reimer, Phaneuf, Kessel, Kulemin, Macarthur, Schenn, Lupul (noone will take him right now anyway), Armstrong, Gunnarsson (he is a decent #5) plus some guys in Marlie-Town right now (Kadri, Blacker, D'Amigo).

Trade Versteeg if you can get a 1st rounder or a strong prospect back, but I don't mind him at all, a heady player who can play in a lot of different situations, young and affordable.

The next couple of weeks will be interesting.

All Celine can do is talk these days...and he was talking all night and it was sweet justice for Kovy. I just don't get why one of the two didn't step up on him...if he gets by one, the other should be right there.

Bad goal. Period.

Reimer should have stopped this easily.

I would agree to an extent but when i looked at it the 2nd time, he totally got screened by ole number 59. That shot was a beaut.
