Avery furious at officials

09:16 AM ET 02.12 | If it wasn't one thing, it was another for Sean Avery in the Rangers' 3-2 loss to the Thrashers. He appeared to be yelled at throughout the match by the officiating crew, did not get a call when slashed at the end of the second period by Andrew Ladd and was cited for a bogus charge in the third. Avery, who has had a good relationship this season with nearly all of the on-ice officials and who has been guarded with his comments, was furious after the match, worked by referees Frederick L'Ecuyer and Brad Watson and linesmen Darren Gibbs and Derek Amell.

You can't be the biggest hacker in the NHL and then cry about not getting calls.
What a baby!

Doesn't deserve a comment but since as of right now there is only one other puck story, I'll just type for the sake of typing and say that it still doesn't deserve a comment.

That pretty much sums it up, although I'd say there are few other guys who are worse than him at this point. Ott and Carcillo are two that spring to mind and I'm sure there are a few more who are worse, but they don't have that albatross of being bush league hanging around their neck, as much as they deserve it.
It was Avery himself who decided to be "the" high profile doooshnozzle in the NHL a few years back and now he is reaping what he sowed.

Kudos to the officials in that game.........

Kind of reminds me of the Flyers always whining about being penalized so much. Well now there is a new top dog. The mighty Pens are one of the most, if not the most penalized team in hockey now. So the Flyer fans can stop their whining now.
I will say this. I think the NHL officiating is one step below the WWE.

It leaves me with a bad feeling, refs playing to the crowd. What happens when they decide to 'gang' up on your team. Just saying, be fair.

They seem to do it in Montreal - playing to the crowd.

If you guys actually knew what you were talking about and watched the game, then your hate would make sense but as a Ranger fan who never really liked Avery, he does have a point (at least I watch their games to see it happen). He's been a jerk in the past but now gets abused too often without getting calls his way. Don't stand on what you know in the past and simply doubt the guy because of who he's been.

Officials are supposed to be unbiased. Don't call a penalty on someone just because he his a **** bag and don't ignore a penalty committed on a **** bag. Unfortunately that's not how it works in the NHL.

Refs are ususally guys who weren't good enough to play on their own or failed cop wannabes... Boneheads each and every one of them and egomaniacs to the nth. Like a linesman waving folks out of the face off circle but not dropping the puck? I cannot think of one ref worth his own spit.
Even a stand up guy like The Avery gets fed up with the horse hooey. In the NHL a penalty is only a penalty if the ref feels like calling it. We all know that.
My advice to The Avery is to suck it up and play hard and lead by example. Do not even look in the ref's direction. If he gets one called on him, go to the box quietly. If they miss one intentionally as they usually do, "just pick yourself up, dust yourself off and start all over again..."
The average hack official is simply jealous that The Avery gets to live a life filled with glory, babes and financial rewards, let alone the adulation of so many.

Sounds like somebody is a little upset about his team getting smacked around last night at home.....

Hank, thanks for being a voice of reason. I've got to calm down, and remember that these are NHL referees, they can't help themselves.
Question: Is the league allowed to review film to determine if a hit was illegal even if it didn't get called? Orpik gave Avery a blindside head shot and there was no call, even though it was an obvious violation of Rule 48. Can some in the league offices look at the film and issue a fine?

They never seem to do it in Edmonton. The refs always seem to screw the crowd and the team over there. Anybody watched that Oilers-Hawks game? Brutal!

Yes, they can and often do. Many suspensions and fines are handed out to players where the refs never even called a penalty. They simply missed it.
The video evidence is often submited for review by the coaches, GMs and refs after the fact for review.

Yep. and, BTW. What a night of hockey awaits dwellers of Canuckistan! Oilers-Sens, Habs-Leafs and the heavywheight tilt between the Canucks and Flames.

To get smacked around one would have to show up in the first place. Boston did not.
Between putting their sucky second string goaler in and not coming out with any intensity, the Bruins were never in the game.

They review stuff all the time I'd imagine. Cooke never got a penalty for hitting Savard last year but they reviewed that one to death.
That Orpik hit still bothers me. But The Avery too it like the man he is.
But like the refs, the league officials are also jealous of The Avery.
