Players crying foul over Subban's fight tactics

10:31 AM ET 02.13 | Add newest Maple Leaf Joffrey Lupul to the growing group of NHLers who don't appreciate the feistiness of scrappy Habs defenseman P.K. Subban. The Toronto native fought in a spirited bout with Lupul late in the first period Saturday night, a tussle which left the Leafs forward crying foul afterward. Prior to the fight, Lupul appeared to gesture to Subban to take off his visor before they began, since both players had them. Instead, Subban tried to clock Lupul, who dodged the blow but was caught off guard by the move. "It's a pretty standard move when you both have visors on to take them off and go," Lupul said. "He's a good, young player but his name keeps coming up over and over again (around the league.) "I'm telling ya, eventually guys are going to stop giving him the benefit of the doubt."

Subban is a good player, but questionable things keep coming up about him.

Really Joffery? At least his name keeps coming up. Something that yours does not. I think I finally see why Burkie traded for you. You're Phil Kessel Lite. You had no points, no shots, and more giveaways than customer appreciation day. Without the puck you looked completely lost.
Yep, you're doing your job....making even Kessel look good.
Canuck eh?

Nice to see Subban fight Lupul....LOL. During the Bruins game earlier this week he was hiding behind the referee when Milan Lucic + Nathan Horton wanted a piece of him.

His name is coming up for being a dirty player. What does lupel stepping up to him have to do with lupels offence?? Suban is a good player but dirty and will pay the price. He wont be running his mouth when a real enforcer has enough of him, but then is when i expect him to turtle and show his true side.

No doubt about it. Hal Gill actually jumped in and took Subban away from the beating he was about to receive in one of the numerous scrums against Boston.
Sooner or later he will have to account for himself like a man and I don't think he's going to like the outcome.

I don't know much about Lupul so I won't argue your point about him, but it has nothing to do with Subban being a chickenshyte player. To go along with his cowardice, he is quite the chippy (no mortal sin there) player and he also has garnered quite a reputation for running his mouth out on the ice as well.
PK appears to think he will spend the rest of his career running at guys half his size with no repercussions. I suggest he learn how to fight really well, because he will be challenged regularly as his career moves forward.

I live in Canada so I was listening to the TSN {Canada's ESPN} play by play of the game. After one of the many scrums going on after the whistle Chara + Gill were standing next to each other. One of the announcers says "do you think Chara + Gill will fight?"......then there was a pause and they both start laughing :) Chara would mop the rink with him!!!!

There's sure a lot of thuggery going on in the league lately.

PK is going to be just fine. I like his style.
Lupul will be quietly gone from the league long before Subban is done playing.

He will be fine, just has to grow up. But I wouldn't mind him getting his head kicked in to speed things up.
And this is coming from a hab fan.

Tell him to pick a fight with Evander Kane next time they play the Thrashers and it will boom out go the lights just like Cooke last year. He is a puss

If a guy was coming TOWARDS me with his gloves off I wouldn't have waited to ask questions either. If Lupul wanted the space to take his lid off he shoulda done it at a distance, not while engaging himself with the opponent. You can't have it both ways.
Sadly, this was the Leaf's attempt at deflecting their piss-poor performance. The Leafs were truly dreadful last night, and yet rather than addressing the media and admitting that they must do MUCH, MUCH better, they look to make excuses. They are taking advantage of the schadenfraude that the hockey community are collectively showing towards this kid.

there are maybe one or two guys in the league (heavyweights included) that Chara would not mop the floor with...so while its funny, its nothing new nor particularly interesting.

And every GM in the league would take him in a heartbeat. Lupul has a history of fighting with his visor on. Mike Richards, the leader of the most disrespectful team in the league called him disrespectful (perhaps he was praising him). Gill wouldn't fight Chara because he would get killed, just like Subban would with Lucic. Seems like a smart decision to me. Bleed_Blue _and_White complains about him because he is a Leaf fan and they would criticize God if he played for the Habs (though God does cheer for the Habs)

It's only Joffrey Lupul. Don't worry about it. Nobody else does.

Like I said, it's only Lupul. Who cares?
Suban's got testicular fortitude.

It's not just Lupul, though. He's only the latest one.

Except Chara the Lummox has to catch you first.
I loved how ungainly he looked on Bertuzzi's second goal.
As I watched the game I was calling for the Wings to give him the puck so he could trip over it...
