Joba no lock for Yankees roster

08:25 AM ET 02.14 | Brian Cashman may envision Joba Chamberlain in the Yankees bullpen, but he's offering no guarantees. "Anybody who has [minor league] options is not a lock for anything," Cashman said when asked by The Post if the 25-year-old was a roster-spot lock. "Any player with options has to re-earn everything." ... Today, what's left for Chamberlain amounts to crumbs. Rafael Soriano got three years and $35 million to set up Rivera. David Robertson has developed into a dependable and versatile righty reliever. Boone Logan and Pedro Feliciano are manager Joe Girardi's lefties in the bullpen. Chamberlain? His options are: middle relief, Triple A or a trade.

Yankees starters will only have to pitch for 6 innings. Joba in 7th, Soriano in the 8th and Mo in the ninth. What a way to win a championship

nah, he went poof! alright...

I'd bet that everybody concerned wishes they had just left Joba in the pen. Reminds me a bit of Goose Gossage's stint as a starter...why not see if this guy with the great arm can give us more innings? Looking back, you wonder WTF they were thinking.

Once in a blue moon maybe, but no way consistently. If their 3-5 starters can average 5 innings per start, I think the Yankees will sign for that.

Poof Joba.

I don't think even the best illusionists in the world could male Joba go poof

I don't know how Joba's mother is supposed to run a successful meth dealing business if Joba's only getting a AAA salary. This is a tragedy.

*make him disappear

he's been a bust from day 1---overpaid, overweight---not worth half his salary. The yankees need to dump him and get a couple of prospects.

Got to compete every day if you want to be there. That's the way it is and always should be.

Perfect example of too many cooks spoiling the broth.
He'd be better off playing somewhere else.
P.S.Cashman is an idiot

February 14, 2011  09:53 AM ET

Would Joba even be guaranteed a roster spot for the Pirates?
