08:04 AM ET 02.15 | Rod Woodson is back in black and silver. Woodson's challenges could be eased if owner Al Davis is able to re-sign three starters in the secondary -- cornerbacks Nnamdi Asomugha and Stanford Routt and free safety Michael Huff. Their contracts expire March 3, and they could become free agents when the NFL and players' union agree to a new collective bargaining agreement. ... Said Hue Jackson: "I'm looking forward to Rod imparting his wealth of knowledge to our players." Woodson has done just that with Asomugha since 2003, when Asomugha was a rookie first-round draft pick out of Cal who was beginning the transition from safety to cornerback. The two have maintained a friendship, and Woodson's presence on the coaching staff could come into play as Asomugha approaches unrestricted free agency.

Raiders need all the help they can get. Great job on 8-8 last year.

February 15, 2011  08:19 AM ET

I don't think Al Davis is capable of much these days.

So great of a job, the head coach was expendable in Ol' Al's mind.

It doesn't seem likely that all three will stay Raiders, especially Asomugha. Somebody will break the bank to poach him.

Raiders were playing almost respectable - so the Crypt Keeper promptly fires Cable.

Knowing Al, he'll let them go. because he's so good at making decisions when it comes to football.

At least Al's been consistent over the last couple of decades (except that little blip back in 2002 season).

Didn't they go undefeated in their division? If he left them alone, I think they were the team to beat in 2011 in that division.

He deserved to be fired the raiders lost to 4 teams that were 6-10 or worse that team is loaded with talent they should have been 12-4

Hue Jackson is an upgrade and Aso will stay in Oakland.

And every team in their division lost twice to an 8-8 team.
It is not who you play, but when you play them.
Give him credit. They were a bad team when he took over and now they are not.

February 15, 2011  10:27 AM ET

Lots and lots of cash is the only thing that will keep him in Oakland. Haven't heard much about Huff since he came into the league. Might be b/c I simply ignored the Raiders all together.

February 15, 2011  10:57 AM ET

All money aside would you stay in Oakland if your contract was up?

February 15, 2011  11:53 AM ET

Asomugha was only there because of the outrageous money he was getting. After all the attention Revis has gotten, he will want to go somewhere where people will recognize how good he is.. and he is extremely good.
