Titans' OC options dwindling fast

08:07 AM ET 02.15 | With Mike Tice out of the picture, Tennessee's options continue to thin among candidates for offensive coordinator. The Jets earlier denied the Titans the opportunity to interview Bill Callahan. Not many candidates out there are out of work. Jeremy Bates, a former University of Tennessee backup quarterback, was fired after one season as Seattle's offensive coordinator. ... Former Vikings coach Brad Childress, who also called plays, is available after being fired. He coached quarterbacks and was offensive coordinator under Andy Reid at Philadelphia. Another NFL coach currently in the unemployment line is Jim Zorn, former quarterbacks coach at Baltimore. ... If the Super Bowl champion Packers would grant permission, Mike Munchak should consider quarterback coach Tom Clements.

If it's down to Childress or Zorn, that's a problem. Maybe they could go the Philly route and hire a defensive guy to be OC.

If they are reaching that far down the pickle barrel go pluck a college coach which may have more upside than these 2. I know...it's kinda novel.

That's exactly what they should do. If they seriously consider pulling a Coach Andy-type hire, they have bigger problems than picking an OC.

Why won't they look at Jim Zorn?

Towards the end in Minnesota, he probably wished he was fishing.

He was fishing when Favre came back and then again when he traded for Moss. Near the end he probably wanted to be at Cabo.

Flacco loved having Zorn as QB coach and played well under him, so I can see someone trying him as OC. Given the situation in TN, however, I don't think he's a good fit. They have an inexperienced new head coach and a public perception that they're in disarray. Ideally, they should get someone with solid OC experience even if it's at the major-college level. Also, hiring Zorn with all his baggage wouldn't do much for their PR problems.

If they're considering the likes of Childress, Callahan, Bates... yeah, they're hurting.
Too bad Jeff Fisher and Bud Adams couldn't have figured out things weren't going to work out sooner...

I would be more worried about who your QB is. Ya can't make chicken salad outta chickensh##. You can X and O all day, but if you don't have the payers to get it done , then it don't mean a thing.

I think Bud Adam's fonked this up on the worse kind of way. Why wait so long to can Fisher and leave in the incoming HC grasping for straws? Childress? Really? I don't think anyone in the NFL respects him, h3ll his dog probably pisses on his leg.

Hey, I'm available. Figure I could do at least as good as Chilly, and way better than Zorn. Just give me a couple days to learn the positions. What do you call the guy that gives the ball to the guy standing up again.

If they are willing to look outside the normal group of has beens and retreads, they should contact former Texas Tech coach Mike Leach. He always had a great offense.
