08:16 AM ET 02.15 | The Knicks may, at long last, be closing in on a deal for Carmelo Anthony. Anthony could have been a Knick Monday if only team president Donnie Walsh were willing to meet Denver's trade demands, which one team official classified as "steep." ... The Nuggets, according to a source, are asking for three starters -- including Danilo Gallinari and Raymond Felton -- plus Eddy Curry's expiring contract and at least one first-round pick. In that proposed deal, Anthony and veteran point guard Chauncey Billups would be coming to the Knicks. It is believed that Walsh and Mike D'Antoni feel the team would be giving up too much.

I kind of agree with the Walsh and Mike D....Giving up three starters and getting two in return half way through a season cant be good...

Wow, that is alot for Melo, smart move by the Knicks. Better get a third team involved.

I still don't understand why you would give anything to Denver when you get him for nothing in the summer.

Bzzzzt. Wrong. Forget it Nuggets. It was nice almost doing business with you. We took our shot, and it didn't work out. I for one Knicks fan am A OK with walking away from this one. Perhaps we'll get Melo this summer, but if not I wish him the best wherever he lands. Lets move on.

Kaman?

Oh God.. did we really say no? If that's really true F Walsh and D'Antoni. Bring Isaiah back right now. Melo is a 100 times better than Gallo and Felton is not close to Billups on any level. Man I want Walsh and Mike out right now... I'm pissed to hear. Even Melo will get pissed and decide to go to Nets... what the freak. C'mon Dolan... go over their heads and get this done. Once again F Walsh for this.

For Real. Let Denver get "Broned" in the off-season. Couldn't happen to a better team.

Seriously if they're asking for two starter outside Amare that's fine but if they're asking for three they can kiss my **** from here to when Melo becomes a free agent.

WOW!!! Everybody loves Raymond from the east to the mile high. Melo's going to the Knicks no doubt, hopefully the trade will be a win-win scenario. Donnie Walsh, Felton and Coach George Karl being Tar Heels is the only reason I care about this deal.

February 15, 2011  08:45 AM ET

correct me if im wrong but how long does billups contract last? I think he has a buyout of 4 mil for 11-12. Give them azibuke as third player (not another starter) and get this done. I think Melo might just opt to stay if this deal cant get done. Think about it .....we keep fields have leverage with chandler next year, and wash billups for felton.

Don't get the knicks, they get by far the best player in the deal and are balking @ giving up a run of the mill PG...which they're going to get an upgrade on back in the deal, the guy who's spot Melo is taking so he's coming off the bench, Eddy Curry, a 1st round pick which they can replace in the blink of an eye by trading Anthony Randolf and his 12 minutes a month of playing time and another guy. Where is the downside for the knicks? Walsh better pull trigger on this, start selling Melo Jerseys and figure out the rest this summer. He'll have cash, roster spost and draft picks.

Im going to say you have no concept of the purposed deal....

Knicks are making the SAME mistake the Cavs made. Ferry did not want to give up JJ freakin Hickson, in a trade with another moron GM Kerr, who ONLY wanted Hickson to be added to the Amare trade. Neither morons did the trade, both are jobless now.

You don't want to give up Felton for Melo?? Hope that doesn't come back and haunt you guys for the next decade when you bricks fans will keep saying 'Could have had 'Bron', 'Could have had 'Melo'

And Gallo and Chandler and expiring contract and a 1st rounder...

That is a lot to give up for pretty much just a scorer...Cant we agree on that they didnt need scoring they need a post presence either defensively or offensively?
