Wisconsin set for slide

08:29 AM ET 02.16 | The Badgers may not be equipped to reload in 2011. All-Big Ten QB Scott Tolzien completed his eligibility. His likely replacement, Jon Budmayr, attempted just 10 passes last season, so that has to be a point of concern. ... [The] Badgers won't have All-America T Gabe Carimi or G John Moffitt opening holes. In addition, subtract TE Lance Kendricks, WR/KR David Gilreath and All-Big Ten DE J.J. Watt, who declared for the NFL draft. This fall's schedule projects to be much more challenging than last season's, which included seven opponents that did not have a winning record.

Any one really expect Wisconsin to slide that far? Pretty sure they have a bevy of OL to fill in the holes and the QB and WR's tend to be role players in their offense. I might be wrong because there is the element of the unknown but I think Wisconsin will do just fine.

Still one of the toughest environments to go to and win a game.Wisconsin will regroup but I don't expect them to contend for the title. QB will be hard to replace and in the Big 10 experience means a lot.

is Wisconsin in the M&N division? If they are, I think they have a good shot at getting to Indianapolis. I don't think they are though...who's is?

...and I thought I was the only one that didn't feel Wisky had a real challenging schedule last year. Still, as long as they have a dominant O line they should be formidable.

The "slide" will probably be an 8-4 or 9-3 season. About half the 1-A programs out there would love a slide year like that...

They have slid so far that they could not afford to send SI an image.

agreed. but outside of tOSU, their tough games are at home. Wisconsin always seems to do better than expected when "rebuilding." I'm a big believer in Jerry Kill. Minnesota hosts them late in the season and that might be a bit of a trap for Wisconsin.

DC, Tolzein meant a lot to that team. Look at his % completion and qb rating. Dude never made a mistake. I have not delved into who is gonna fill his shoes but it will be a tall task. They have great depth at OL and tailback but as you know without a field general it can all be for not.

Yeah, if you have superior talent you can pretty much do what you want. Once talent equalizes, you better be able to chunk it a little to back the defense off or just be ready to punt and play defense all the time.

totally agree about Tolzein and his leadership but they don't need a repeat of his stats necessarily.

I'm beginning to think that Wisky is the new TSUN...their BBall team even has a coach named Bo. Bring on the hate.

Hasn't been much of a challenge hating TSUN lately, huh HM?

In light of their soft schedule you might be correct. 9-3 or 8-4 should be an easy task.

on paper I see 10-2. i think they'll lose a game or 2 they absolutely shouldn't (perhaps an early OOC opponent and either Minn or ILL) without winning a game as an underdog. there's no way they win in columbus. 8-4 sounds right. 9-3 if the beat Nebraska.

Imitation is the most sincere flattery, WB. Bielema has done a good job with Wisky. His run game is definitely out of Woody's playbook.

You can go a lot wrongier than building a strong running game.
