Top team to watch this spring? Texas

08:27 AM ET 02.16 | Among the most disappointing teams of 2010, Texas opens as one of this spring's most interesting. The program's first losing season since 1997 caused Mack Brown to radically alter his coaching staff, and the new group has a decidedly SEC flavor. Brown hired Manny Diaz from Mississippi State to run the defense, Bo Davis from Alabama to coach the defensive line and Stacy Searels from Georgia to coach the offensive line. Brown also looked to the SEC for a strength and conditioning coach, nabbing Bennie Wylie from Tennessee. But Brown's most vital hire came from the WAC, as Bryan Harsin was hired away from Boise State to coordinate an offense that wants to become more physical.

If Harsen has enough leeway and can adapt to having more talented players than they did at BSU, the offense could be very good in the future. If that happens, I'd hate to be DCs for the opponents.

Only one of those played at all last year LUS. UTx didn't play offense or defense...they were just out there with eleven...maybe they should have tried more ala the other UT!

Nothing against Texas and FJJ, but most people in Alabama felt like losing Bo Davis was a good thing. Our DL play last year and the year before was something we pointed to as where we were lacking.
In 09 we blitzed a lot with LBs because we weren't getting much pressure from the ends. In 10, we were pretty low in rankings for sacks and we should have been better.
I noticed Texas didn't have a lot of verbals yet, so maybe they have changed the way they recruit. Alabama has 8 verbals so far and it is looking to be another really good class.

Does Texas use a 3-4 or a 4-3?

Absolutely - there's always a couple in his game plan.
TX is going to be a monster! After being embarrassed last year, they're out to prove it was a once-in-20-years thing. I'm really worried about playing them in early Sept., before there's much film.

FJJ - you can't fly under the radar when you have a HUGE $$ TV deal and are named Texas!

I'm not looking to start anything (even though sometimes I like to) , but can any one name any coaches from BSU that have had a great amount of success elsewhere? Borges maybe but his only real outstanding accomplishment came with a loaded team and then he went downhill. (can't really knock what he did at SDSU either.)
I'm not saying that he won't be good or even great but as much as we remember all the trick plays, BSU wins because they flawlessly execute (and a lot of times against inferior competition). I think Texas will be better than people expect but it will be because the old MB is back.

LB, that is what I meant by Harsen adjusting to having more and different talent. From what I've seen, you can't exclusively take what you did one place and apply it totally at another unless the talent (and attitude) is very, very similar. That said, if the adjustment happens, look out...example Aubie and their OC.

That's a good point. most of the schools weren't necessarily prime choices.
