Irsay: We've offered Manning more than Brady

08:04 AM ET 02.18 | Colts owner Jim Irsay remains set on signing Peyton Manning to the richest contract in NFL history, preferably over a five- or six-year term. A long-term deal would surpass the four-year, $72 million extension the New England Patriots gave quarterback Tom Brady in September. "Negotiations are ongoing," Irsay said. "They're going well. My feeling is something will get done in terms of a long-term deal. The framework is out there." ... "[Tom] Brady's contract," Irsay added, "is done. I've made an offer higher than that contract." Irsay believes Manning can play at a high level for another five or six seasons and would prefer reaching a long-term contract before March 3. That's when the league's collective bargaining agreement with the union expires. Shortly thereafter, owners are expected to lock out players.

There's not a person alive that follows the NFL that does not believe this deal will not get done. Even though this is a non-story, it feels good seeing the Colts with a thread. A person can only take so much Jets and Carson Palmer stories!

There is a definite disconnect here. Owners claim they need more of that revenue they share with the players, hard to get by,at the same time they throw $16 million at Vick and offer Peyton more than Brady money, and just threw $100 million at fat albert.
