08:11 AM ET 02.21 | How badly does Golden State want a big man? If the Warriors can't find their coveted center upgrade at the trade deadline or in the draft, they would consider injury risks Greg Oden or Yao Ming at a discounted rate in the offseason. "When you're looking at what you can do to get better, you have to consider the possibility of what an injured player today might be able to do when he returns," said general manager Larry Riley. ... "It's not a secret. We have either got to get the players we have to play better in and around the basket, or we have to get somebody else," Riley said. "That's really where we are, so I might as well say it."

QUOTE(#3):

But the underlying question for any team is what do you expect from either? If you are hoping to find a bargain and are planning on DEPENDING on either, then you are a fool, at whatever price if you are looking at either as PURELY back up and not as a key component, then YES, take a chance at a low price

All you can expect for Yao or Oden is hope, hope that they will somehow find a way to play without getting hurt.

Wasn't this guy meant to be the next David Robinson? Too bad he couldn't stay healthy...

February 21, 2011  09:16 AM ET

i'd say there'll be quite a few teams out there willing to take the risk with Oden, i expect a smaller market for Yao just due to age

The guy only put up 14 points and 9 rebounds a game in college, I don't know what gave anyone that idea.

Its a great move,

February 21, 2011  09:25 AM ET

yao had his foot done like Ilgauskas did - and Ilgauskas has played 10years with out a problem - it's a gamble but if you can get the player cheep and he rehebs will - he might play for another 6 years or more -- but it's a gamble
and it's the same for oden - if he returns and can play even at 60% of what he was and you can get him cheep - it's a good deal - so lets gamble

February 21, 2011  09:28 AM ET

after reading the headline i assumed it was for the expiring contracts not as actual players - but then again it is the warriors

February 21, 2011  09:29 AM ET

Oden's just too young for some team out there not to take a chance on him. Alotta potential when he was # 1 overall too bad he's as fragile as fine china. And Yao, sure why not? At least he's proven in the past he can stay healthy, of course not lately though.

February 21, 2011  09:29 AM ET

any money sunk into oden is a waste - especially because the pace the warriors play at..

Better sign oden for 4 years. His formula is that he plays a quarter of a season. So do the Math if you want to get an entire season out of him.

They're both done. Get serious.
