08:31 AM ET 02.21 | Dwight Hardy capped his 19-point effort in Saturday's upset over Pitt with the game-winning layup. To Hardy, it was just a routine play in a Bronx summer league. "I've made tougher shots," he said. To St. John's coach Steve Lavin, it was a work of art. "It was a 9.9 on the scale of 10," he said. "We're going to call it 'a Baryshnikov.'" Lavin has officially started lobbying for Hardy as a late candidate for Big East Player of the Year. Who are we to argue? "I think he's a runaway favorite," Lavin said. "I know I'm biased. I'm subjective. But no player has done more for a basketball team. He's had some remarkable performances against the best teams in the country -- Connecticut, Duke, at UCLA and now Pitt. He's electrified and elevated our program. He's jumper-cabled our program."

Team sport. If individual acclamations are sought, play golf, tennis, etc....and no Ryder Cup or Davis Cup.

New York is excited they actually have a strong College Basketball team again after so many years. What's disgusting is that St John's is the best team playing in Madison Square Garden right now.

He is the player of the year. It's the first time the Johnnies has been relevant in 10 years. If Hardy isn't Player of The Year and Lavin isn't Coach of The Year then both of them were robbed of the honors they deserve!

RED STORM ARE BACK!

There is not team in America who can beat the Johnnies in the Garden. Now they gonna have show their stuff on the road. They are a deep tourny team that is for sure.

Syracuse beat St. Johns 76-59 on January 12th @ the Garden...if I remember correctly. Other than that, they have dismantled some of the top programs in the country at MSG this year. They deserve that credit.
