Texas' Gilbert no lock to start at QB

08:29 AM ET 02.23 | While the running back competition at Texas appears to be an open race, quarterback is no lock, either. Junior Garrett Gilbert was 260-of-441 for 2,744 yards, 10 TDs and 17 INTs and is a big focus for fans. If you're a Gilbert guy, you have faith in his standout Lake Travis career and blame last year's O-line and running game; if you're not, you point to his TD/INT ratio. IN THE MIX: Sophomore Case McCoy attempted only one pass, while Connor Wood -- who's probably considered the best all-around athlete of this bunch -- redshirted. NEW FACE: Belton's David Ash threw for 7,944 yards and 80 TDs his last three years. He's got an above-average arm. A PREDICTION: There won't be a clear starter when spring ends, but it'll be down to two QBs, one of which will be Gilbert.

It won't matter who the trigger man is if the O line continues to play like girls.

Will it be Conner Wood or David Ash? Good luck to them all.

Wood and Ash...there has to be a burning joke in there somewhere!

Well, you have to burn the wood to get the ash, and that's the real McCoy! Just ask Luke.

Ding, ding, ding...we have a winner. However, Colonel, you do realize you have a lot of competition among the faithful FN wise arses.

I can't come up with anything clever since Brooklyn Decker and Irina Shayk keep falshing their **** all the time. How is a guy supposed to concentrate with so many flashes of snatch constantly running on the screen?

Focus, BB9, focus!

Every position is up for grabs per Mack, QB included. But if you had to bet then go with Gilbert.

Is it me, our did Texas (as a team) gave up on Gilbert after the UCLA debacle?

A repeat of '10 will mean, no lock on job for Mack too!

I'm not sure they ever had anything to even give up on in 2010!

Can you honestly blame Gilbert and the Longhorn's offense for the UCLA loss?
