08:24 AM ET 02.24 | Kevin Millwood, an Opening Day starter only a year ago, is now in California hoping for a call and working out in the meantime. For the past week, Millwood, 36, has been training at a Southern California facility run by his agent, Scott Boras. ... The Orioles had lukewarm interest in re-signing Millwood this winter, but used their available funds in other areas. The New York Yankees have been linked to Millwood, but the sides have not been able to work out a deal. At various points in the offseason, Millwood drew interest from the Cleveland Indians, Kansas City Royals and Colorado Rockies, among others. One team that could be a potential fit is the St. Louis Cardinals, which may have lost ace Adam Wainwright for an extended period due to an injury on Monday.

The Cards won't be looking at Millwood any time soon. They plan on looking from within the organization.

Actually, he was pegged as the #5 starter last year until Garcia barely beat him out!

Millwood is a decent starter and would fill some innings for StL...
Going into the organization to see what you have is not a bad thing despite this blow to the Cards...
Making the playoffs would have been nice, but barring major injury, the Phils have already bought the title anyway...
I just hope StL makes some good moves to be competitive.

Duncan is the only reason I'd be interested in signing Millwood. He seems like a typical Duncan reclamation project, and he could add some veteran depth.
That said, I'd probably just as soon see the Cards go with their young pitchers to fill the spot. It's going to be very difficult to win the Central without Adam, so I'd rather see what the kids have than go with Millwood.
