Chipper Jones takes swing at critics

06:47 AM ET 02.28 | Some cynics not only question Chipper Jones physically, they wonder if money is his primary motivation. When I asked Jones about the accusation, he laughed. Then he swung away. "If they think I'm doing this for the money, they obviously haven't seen my bank account," he said. "I've never played this game for money. Nor will I. My mind doesn't work that way. I play this game because I love my teammates and they wanted me to come back. I still feel like I have something to offer, and the cynical fan can really kiss my ass. I really don't care. There's a bunch of true fans and the people who actually want to take the time to get to know me, know who I am. The guy who sits in his mom's basement and types on his mom's computer, I couldn't really care less about."

You are the Braves Chipper. And you are also one of my favorite players. I have always been a Braves fan. I am 70 years old, so I have been for the team a long time.

There are only a very few players who I actually admired and Chipper Jones is one of them. I am a Yankee fan but above that a baseball fan. Chipper was Jeter before Jeter. I hope he plays for another five years. HOF first ballot.

Chipper is a big part of what made the Braves who they are in the 90's up to today.
Don't know the guy personally, but I can sympathize with one of the health issues he has.... pulled groin muscles are excruciatingly painful, I found out over the weekend.
Go Chipper! Go Braves!

Morning Mongo.

Yeah, Chipper critics can kiss my ass too. Chipper is my second favorite athlete of all time, and this is more than likely his last season as a player.

He might not be very productive number wise this season, but his presence makes the players around him better, which makes the team better.

Notice when he went down, the Braves started slumping.

Chipper is the heart and soul of American sports, and to say he's only coming back for the money is just dumb.

Who wants to end their career with an injury?

I meant Atlanta sports, not American, I'm tired, leave me alone.

Chipper's had a great career but I think he's making a mistake coming back. He looked finished last year, before the knee injury.

You weren't watching many Braves games were you?

The month before the injury, Chipper hit over 300 with a lot of extra base hits, hell the play he tore the ACL on was one of the best defensive plays he's made in a long time.

Chipper isn't the same Chipper of the early 2000's, and this season might be an injury plagued struggle, but I don't blame him for coming back, and as a Braves fan I'm glad he is coming back.

Isn't it a little early in the morning to be making 'your mom' jokes?

It wasn't really a mom's joke, and it's nearly 10:30 here in real time.
