Pistons dole out tough love

07:39 AM ET 11.12 | Missing a team plane isn't an unheard of offense in the NBA. It happens, even to responsible, watch-wearing, alarm-clock-setting veterans. Still, when you're a third-year forward fighting for playing time, even a flat tire on the way to the airport comes across as disappointing, coach Flip Saunders said. That's what happened to Amir Johnson on Saturday, when a bum tire caused him to miss the team's 10 a.m. flight to Seattle. "It's disappointing," Saunders said, "because as I've told him, he's had a couple times where he's missed some situations, and part of the responsibilities of an NBA player is living up to your responsibilities, and that's both on the floor, being on time and everything else. It's not something that I like." Saunders said the missed flight wouldn't affect Johnson's playing time, which could increase as the team faces several running teams on its five-game West Coast trip. But for now, he just hopes Johnson, 20, learned an important off-the-court lesson.
