Surprise No. 1 QB at Miami

08:19 AM ET 03.07 | What, you didn't have Spencer Whipple at the top of your Miami depth chart? Spring football practice at the University of Miami was about to commence, and the No. 1 quarterback had a little crowd going. No. 1 being the unlikely Whipple, last season's No. 3 guy and the left-handed son of former UM offensive coordinator Mark Whipple. Senior Jacory Harris, listed as No. 2 on the depth chart, had a bigger crowd to be sure. But the symmetry of the quarterback situation -- that includes current No. 3 Stephen Morris -- made it evident that this spring will be a fight to the finish. "It means a lot," Whipple, a senior, said of starting out No. 1 based on his pre-spring production in the conditioning phase of coach Al Golden's program. "It's one of my goals to be the starter. I'm taking it very seriously."

My hope is that Jacory gets hurt in spring ball, gets a medical red shirt and then starts for Miami in 2012 when they play the Irish at Solider field.

Hoping for a replay of the Sun Bowl Piratey?

"start" being the key word. FSU looks tough but VT might be more likely.

=] Jacory made Harrison Smith look like an All-American safety that day(he had three picks)

They forgot to tell him what color jerseys the canes were wearing. More completions to ND defensive backs than Hurricane receivers.

Either Jacory or Tate Forcier would be an open invitation for a Notre Dame beatdown. But what about the guy who took over for Jacory in the Sun Bowl? Or is he "gradjitated?"

A word of advice to Al Golden - don't let this go into Fall camp. Pick someone and let the troops begin to rally around him.

I saw first-hand how a two-QB team works last year - isn't pretty.

The canes have there work cut out for them if they want to contend this year i'd say there a few years away.

Or that Whipple gets hurt/redshirted, and Jacory starts for the "U" when they face the Buckeyes in September. Or maybe, be careful what we wish for, eh?Where's svt? I'd like his analysis on these three, sepecially Whipple.

The Buckeyes D will be looking to embarrass whoever gets the nod.

GO BUCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!
