Donovan: SEC deserves six tourney bids

08:20 AM ET 03.08 | Many "bracketologists" see the SEC sending four teams to the NCAA tournament, but Billy Donovan is not a bracketologist. In Donovan's admittedly biased opinion, the conference should get six teams in the tournament. The Florida coach said the SEC has improved from two seasons ago when it placed three in the NCAA tourney, with Mississippi State earning a bid by virtue of winning the conference tournament. "I think the league is really, really good," Donovan said. "If our league was supposedly as bad as everyone says, you'd think we'd get one or two teams in. And everyone says, 'Well, it's all from the East.'"

Does he happen to be one of the two teams that he would put in and the bracketologists are keeping out?

Maybe in football... no way they deserve six in hoops. Even the SEC homers have lamented SEC hoops this year.

I don't know if I am considered a homer or not but no way is there 6 teams. SEC West is absolutely awful.

+1 SEC basketball is awful! Florida will be the weakest 3 seed in the history of NCAA. Kentucky isn't deserving of the 4 seed. Tenn beat Pitt and some other Big East team like 9 months ago....Vandy is a joke. No way does this conference deserve 6 bids to the tourney.

How many days till football season???

QUOTE(#10):

I agree. If he wants 6 invites he should push for 7 or 8, then get the six, you push for six, you get 3, 4 or 5. Fl should be a 5, KY a 6 or 7, Vandy an 8 and TN either a 10 or play in.

UGA should be in also. They may have the best resume in the conference after UF. Alabama will probably be a victim of their own scheduling. Otherwise, no other team in the west merits consideration. Hopefully my Dawgs can string together 3 good games and get the automatic bid. We just need UF and Alabama to fall out of the picture first :)

Don't know about that...Florida is 10-2 against the RPI top 50, nobody has a better record as far as I know (Kansas 8-2, Ohio St. 7-2, Duke 7-3, UNC 6-4, ND 10-4, Purdue 6-3, Wisconsin 5-6, Texas 7-3). Kentucky can't win on the road, but neutral sites may be possible, hope not. Vandy is solid, Tennessee is either really good or awful, awful lately. Georgia could make some noise if they get in, Alabama can't. Florida is solid, should go deep in the tourney.

exactly, that's why Florida will be a #2 seed. after they win the conference tournament of course.

QUOTE(#17):

They prob get the past the 1st weekend and thats it.. depending on matchups.. Vandy and UF are about the same IMO..UK win their 1st game.. After that, I think they are done

Billy has UF peaking at the right time. They will get past first weekend and then some - prob not to the 4 but they'll hang around enough to justify their seed.

The SEC should have 6 teams invited, If thats the case then they should invite the whole Big East conference ....SEC has 2 teams in the top 25 - Big East has 8 teams in the top 25

Holy smokes, a Buckeye fan has appeared!

Someone needs to remind Donnovan that NCAA bids aren't like the House of Reps. It doesn't matter how many teams your conference has, it's how GOOD they are!!

I'll be surprised......Your team stomped a mudhole in my team this year, so I understand how good they can play. I am a complete SEC homer, too, but if you watch basketball outside of the SEC, you see a much better brand of the game. IMO, Fla IS the class of hte SEC, but they are middle-pack to Big 10, Big 12, and Big East bball. I would think Vegas would be +- 3 points on a FLA matchup w/ Missouri, Wisconson, or Uconn.....middle of the pack.
