Newton remains high on Panthers' radar

08:07 AM ET 03.08 | New Panthers head coach Ron Rivera may have raised some eyebrows with his effusive praise of Cam Newton at the scouting combine, and his attendance at Auburn's pro day will add to the intrigue. Rivera will see defensive tackle Nick Fairley, too, but Fairley seems to have fallen behind Alabama's Marcell Dareus as the top interior lineman to be drafted in April. Newton, meanwhile, remains front and center on the Panthers draft radar. During Rivera's news conference in Indianapolis, the words that echoed were constant references to "franchise quarterbacks." He insisted the Panthers would pursue all avenues to find one but made clear they're looking for something the Panthers haven't really had.

First

If he's high on their radar, then they are high.

This should be entertaining...

It seems lately that taking a QB high is a waste.

There are some exceptions but Cam will not be one of them.

I think teams have been a bit spoiled with high pick QB's lately. Ryan, Flacco, Sanchez, Stafford, Freeman, Bradford. Tebow is the only one that is questionable and personally I like him. I think he will devote every last second he has to be a good QB.

Cam Newton seems like a combination of Tebow and Vince Young to me.

That was what I was going for, it did not come out right. More times then naught a high QB pick is a waste, or so it seems.

Crown (cam) me when its over....Go pick him, as Bugs Bunny said...
You'll be sorry!

Don't think there is a clear cut #1 ...if you can't trade down you could take like 5-6 guys and Cam is one of them. Luck staying in school hurt them.

This is a fishing trip and Cam is the bait. Cam the Canard.
They are hoping some team will call and take that pick off their hands.

agree totally. but no one else wants to go first either. they should take the best defensive player on the board then they can use that first pick in the second round plus a four to move back in to the first round and still get a QB with as much chance as anybody of making it.

I'm sure the Patriots would be happy to trade for the 523043204320 time out of the first round for future pciks

True. I don't see them getting another young QB with all they need.

The games have begun... as they always do before the draft.

SAdly the only time in the past several years the first overall pick seems to be traded is when San Diego has it....(Eli, Vick)
And as long as Norv is alive and kicking in SD....there is a chance they could be back

It's shocking how the Panthers would disregard Cam's lack of character and choose him overall #1. Jerry don't pull the trigger on this cancer, you deserve better and so do your fans.
