10:15 AM ET 03.09 | Fabio Capello has hailed Gareth Bale as the No. 1 wideman in the world. Having played alongside the great Giacinto Facchetti for Italy and coached Roberto Carlos at Real Madrid, Capello claimed converted full-back Bale is now their successor as the best. "Bale today is the No. 1 in the world, the only one who can make the difference in that role because he has speed, technique and power - qualities which are difficult to find in a player who is not an attacker," said England boss Capello.

Fitting this rumor should come out on Ash Wednesday.

Also, major international news story of the day? Spurs switching to Under Armour.

Also, related to the conversation yesterday regarding Americans in the Bundesliga having more success, I think Americans have been less succesful than most think.

Here's what I cam up with for most league matches. Notice #2 and #3 are actually born and raised in Germany as Germans. I can't think of anyone else off the top of my head who played for a longer period of time? Anybody?

Steve Cherundolo: 240
Thomas Dooley: 199
Jermaine Jones: 106
Kasey Keller: 78
Michael Bradley: 76
Eric Wynalda: 54

And why I'll never really respect Lando;
Landon Donovan: 13 Games, Zero Goals, One Assist

And for your reading pleasure on the topic, I pulled this gem off of Yahoo Answers. And yes, Germans are racist towards Mexicans because they're always crossing our border and taking away all of our jobs. Or maybe it's related to the Zimmermann telegram. I'm not sure.

Q: Why does the Bundesliga keep signing American football players and not Mexicans ?
I keep hearing how Mexico is great at football and the USA, is well, not so great. So why are so many German teams signing American players and not Mexican players ?

A1: Well its simple. Since Germany don't have many spanish speaking people it makes it hard for Mexican players to adapt in a league such as the German. There have been many offers for Mexican players in the Bundesliga but players have chosen the Spanish league over the Bundesliga. Why does the La liga keep signing Mexican football players and not American? I am sure you will say the same thing as me.
Also base the fact that Americans have a physical resemblance to Germans and that there are many American Soldiers based in Germany it is always a bonus when you are American and you go see a German team play with an American in it.

A2: actually, i can't think of not even one good american player in the first league! there might be some in the second league, but their not really good!

A3: It could be that they see something in American football players that they don't see in Mexican football players. There could be something going on behind the scenes as well that causes them to sign more Americans than Mexicans. I don't know and can only speculate, guess and give theories about why that is.

I didn't give this that much thought yet but the language barrier does pose a problem between Mexican players and the Bundesliga. A player can learn another language if they have to though. I don't think this is necessarily why the Bundasliga signs more Americans than Mexicans though. It saddens me to say this but I have to wonder if maybe it's a racial issue and just how much that may play a part in it. I do have to say that if I was a Mexican player and had the choice of the Bundasliga or La Liga, I would probably go with La Liga because it's in Spain and I would speak the language.

So true, so true.

I knew that the second I saw this story on Soccernet that they would post it here.

On a serious note: Um. No. Not better than Facchetti. And certainly not better than Roberto Carlos. And isn't bale at CB cuz they got no one else?

That said. Gareth is still the almighty.

Anyone know the selection process for ref's for these games? Does FIFA get to choose them like the WC? 1 representative from each of the countries type thing? I don't know much about this ref, but the commentators were not so friendly to him on FSC.

Side Note: If you have DirectTV, at least in AZ they are showing FSC PLUS free until the 15th of this month.

Who is Facchetti? And Roberto Carlos is 60 years old....

He came up as a full back and really just came up as a winger late last year.

Finally, my thoughts on Barcelona-Arsenal. Growing up I tended to passively root for Barca as the outsider, Catalan side over Real Madrid. I've hated Real Madrid for a long time. But over the last 7 years, I've found my distaste for Barcelona growing stronger and stronger.

I don't know if its the exponentially growing number of Barca kits I see on the streets of Washington every year, the ****-erotic man-love heaped on Messi over the past two seasons or the fact that they've slowly become the superior side over Real and turned Real into the "underdog" in the last few seasons, but my hate of all things Barca has reached new heights. Much in the same way the NBA doesn't want the Lakers to lose, the European Refs officiate Barca matches as if they deposited a check from Barca in the ATM just before kick-off.

I've long said the only thing better than Germany winning the World Cup is watching England not win the World Cup. Slowly, I'm really beginning to experience a case of Schadenfreude in all things Barcelona. As much as I look forward to Bayern winning the Champions League this seson with Breno in defense, I'm also very excited to see Barca (and Man United) crash and burn at some point in the tournament. Just don't give me another effing ManU-Barca final. I only thank Gareth I've never had to endure an England-Netherlands World Cup final. That could only mean I've died and gone to hell.

I know, I know... the first one is free. Then they have you hooked and you end up slinging crack on the corner to keep your FSC Plus...

Bayern, you need to accept Barca as your savior.

Also, regarding my FB message yesterday. I believe I saw you at Summers yesterday. Bearded 6'4 German, chummy with the bartender, ordering buffalo chicken sandwich. I called out 'Bayern' but didn't seem to reach you.

I'm 6-5. So I take it your were in the front bar? I did not hear you. Pity.
